Vodka 4,478
Some of your perceptions are just wild. I do have to say though, she does seem to sort of fit the mold of what Gaga's ARTPOP era was like. Give the girl a damn chance though, it's not like Gaga invented healing, and I think everyone deserves a flippin chance at working towards their better selves. I'd be less reactive and respond better when the music's actually out just saying Yes, I also do love partying in moving houses as seen in that one Bacardi tv ad. StrawberryBlond 14,919
Oh, this sounds so much like the stuff Gaga said during AP and yes, Joanne. Fun dancey dark light music, embracing, surrendering, healing, her family, sobering up, embrace who she really is, don't mistake kindness for weakness, women getting together and uniting, this album is about no one but me, this album is about everything that I digest, vulnerability, being strong, God bless...The parallels are incredible. And I noticed that "kindness for weakness" thing is from Rihanna's 45Seconds! This even sounds like some things that she said Prism was going to be. She said that album was going to be dark but later decided to 'let the light in' (which is totally code for "My label thought this dark stuff was too depressing and too much of a risk"). This is just reminding me of everything Gaga built up AP to be and then it wasn't for a lot of fans, and not just the music, everything about the era. And some of these track names...She's actually going to put out a song about the election result? Good luck with that. That'll probably be a really basic, vague song that won't actually say anything profound. And a fun dance song called Swish Swish sounds like it'll be really bad. There's some songs where the title just says it all. And she's really building it up by calling it a 'brave' album. BTW was a brave album. AP had some brave elements. Even Joanne was a brave album because it was a Gaga that we'd never seen before. Katy doesn't know a damn thing about making brave music. The riskiest song she ever made was Ur So Gay and it wasn't risky in a positive way, that's for sure. And seeing as her label tried to cover up all evidence of that songs existence as a single (it was her real debut single, not I Kissed A Girl, but her label fixed that), it barely counts as a real risk. Gaga put her career on the line with the BTW album by heavily promoting gay rights, making songs supporting Mexican immigration, making her lead single about being happy to be yourself and called out every race and sexual orientation in it, released a song about being in love with Judas just before Easter (and included depictions of Jesus and Judas in her video), had a song called Government Hooker and even a title that was a German word (that she originally wanted to be a single), her final single had a 13-minute music video with the first couple of minutes pure acting, she wore prosthetic horns stuck on her face and painted her face to look like a skeleton, her tour got age-restricted in Korea and she even got banned from performing in Indonesia because of her support for gay rights. Once Katy has done stuff of this level, then I will say she makes brave statements. But if she doesn't do something controversial after making such bold claims, she's got a storm coming. The word 'brave' means something very different from what it used to mean because the likes of Madonna, Gaga and even Miley have pushed the boundaries so much in pop music that now a lot of people are like "seen it all before." You have to do something bigger than what they've done if you want to be considered brave, and seeing as that would be really difficult to do, maybe refrain from such claims?
