The show disregarded some significant things the psychologists they sought out for input told them. Like the actual suicide scene? Definitely known to be a bad idea to show people with suicidal thoughts HOW to actually do it, what it looks like, etc. And the way that the show made it look like people with suicidal thoughts don't have any help? Nowhere Hannah turned was she able to get real help, and people with mental health issues already struggle enough trying to figure out how to seek help- now the show shows them that Hannah was only noticed and truly cared for after she died. For people without these problems, the show is helpful because it encourages them to be more kind and open a dialogue about the issues, but for people with the problems the show is talking about, the show can be rather detrimental. Homegirl knew Hannah wrote that note on the napkin and didn't call her out, but instead stood up for her and took the fall for it when her defensiveness made people assume she wrote it. And even though she was mad Clay was giving attention and care to Hannah when Skye missed being friends with him, she still stood up for Hannah instead of being a jealous person. She could have made things worse for Hannah, but she kinda had Hannah's back more than anyone else, oddly enough. And well all know who's gonna be the most hated.
