Not The Real Gaga

With the release of Joanne, this fan base seemed to be split apart again. Gaga debuted with a new, fresh sound, totally different from most of her previous work. Some call it country music, others think Joanne is a well-balanced mix of different genres. Joanne also seems to be a more personal album for her.

The Joanne era marks some highlights in Gaga's career, such as the critical acclaimed Super Bowl Halftime Show. Also her recent Coachella performances got a lot of praise. And don't forget about the well-received Carpool Karaoke!

But, some fans criticize the lack of promotion for the singles of Joanne and the quality of Gaga's music videos in this era, with the exception of the John Wayne video. All in all, for the ones who care about chart as well, the new material doesn't always score (in comparison with her previous albums). Now she is filming A Star Is Born, we won't get a lot of Joanne promo until the start of The Joanne World Tour (assuming The Cure isn't really a part of this era).

So, what do you think about the "Joanne Era" (so far)? Are you satisfied? Disappointed? Do you call this era the best on Gaga has ever had? Or do you think this whole era is just on big mess?

Give a rating in the poll & let's discuss our thoughts below in the comments section!

I mean the album itself is very strong and cohesive, and her performances have not only been solid but also she's gotten some of the best gigs (the Super Bowl, Coachella, soon Rock in Rio, Carpool Karaoke, like you mentioned.) Sure the MVs haven't been great, and we may not have gotten a lot of singles, but MR did well (considering), The Cure is doing well, overall album sales did well, and she's doing projects and activities that make her happy and secure in herself, which is the most important thing.

It is what it is. Album is great. Not many singles but strong enough videos. Vocally amazing. She is doing her thing, so am I.

Very good. A successful single, string of excellent performances (Dive Bar Tour, VSFS, AMAs, etc), a surprise music video for fans, and good album sales and longevity. I don't know what more we could ask for? The music is different, but it reminds me a lot of her earlier eras in terms of exposure.

I love this era  I became a stan because of this era, but I'm just so disappointed that there aren't that much promotion for the album, like performances and such. I feel like Perfect Illusion was wronged, they shouldn't have gave up on it so fast. Also, I feel like A-yo should've been the Lead single, I can just imagine the slayage, because all my friends love that song. Gaga's versatility was what made me check out her stuff, and this album though this wasn't my favorite(ARTPOP:firega:) will always have a place in my heart. And the fact that she didn't perform PF in either SB or Coachella :what: I hope she continues to push boundaries and give me that thing that I love :golfclap: xoxo, Lordga

Music is fine. Liked the pink hat visual, but the album campaign (aside from the SB) seemed dead upon arrival, and even Gaga seems to have moved on with The Cure etc.

Wasn't a fan of the music videos either (aside from John Wayne)

I personally love the album because I'm a fan of americana music anyway so it's so cool to see Gaga venture into that genre.

Like others have said she's had some of the biggest performances during this era and she's definitely back on the GP's radar, but I do think the promotion has been mismanaged. I'm pretty sure if I asked my friends who aren't huge fans of her they probably wouldn't even know she had released a new album. The Cure is the first time I've heard Gaga played on the radio in my country since Applause (PI and MR got not airtime). It's kind of a shame because I think the music of Joanne is far more interesting than The Cure but it just doesn't fit into the current trend of mainstream pop music.

Heart felt music, beautiful lyrics, not very good production, not enough looks for us fans, not many photoshoots, bad mvs, great live performances (vocally), Superbowl, fixed her image with the GP, fixed radio issue thanks to MR etc...

hmmmm I'll give it a 7.5/10

Good era.

Irrelevant

The album was great, and I don't even like half of it, it's just that it's one of the most cohesive and thought-out work she has ever done (Don't come at me, I love ARTPOP :laughga:)

Promotion was so-so. PI died a bit, MR got quite a bit of promotion, but somehow still failed to reach the charts and the GP until the SB. Dive Bar Tour was cool, most MR performances were perfect, and the SB was beautiful. Can't wait for the JWT. :gaycat:

so it was good :laughga:

Loved it so far. I hope we get more singles, but overall I'm very satisfied with Gaga's evolution as an artist. I think Joanne is the first album by Gaga that I could legitimately show to anyone and say "this is a good album" without having to add "for a pop album". And that's a massive achievement. :firega:

I would say average. No major global hit. No gain no loss. In Europe it feels like it was just a scratch. It's true she earned some respect as an artist but it was not what I truly expected of her. The album will pass as a fan favorite eventually (and my own) but let's be honest sistren, if there was no SB and with that particular single order,  it would throw Gaga to indie oblivion. Good thing is that she made the public thirsty again for some good ol' fashioned dance smashes. It was more like a prenatal examination. Hope she delivers now that she realized the public still cares.

strong 7.

For me, the era was interesting only because of SuperBowl, Victoria Secret and Metallica collaboration. The Joanne album is good, just sadly it is not my type of sound. Visuals are dull and disappointing (compared to my favorite eras).

But anyway, I am happy to see Gaga being herself and living her life.
