I really admire him for trying, and I'm not going to be too cynical about it, but we all know that human nature and the interests of bussinessmen doesn't align with this bill...

If by some miracle it happens, then it will be an amazing step in the right direction and the world might just change for the better!

Although I bet he's made this bill so bold, because he knows that realistically it will get cut back. And even if it gets cut back and 20% of what he proposes actually happens, that'll be a great start.

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

One day, when the world is run 100% on clean energy, they will look back in history and see how many times politicians said "no"

Nuclear war will destroy the planet before this ever happens.

Nope - Tesla will be selling solar shingles that cost less than the price of a regular roof later this year. Solar energy is here to stay. For the average consumer, solar shingles are a more realistic option than building a nuclear plant in their backyard. You're right about nuclear power though, by 2050 when we have large-scale implementation of clean energy systems we will probably be seeing more of these around than solar panels. Once we're to that point it'll be much cheaper startup & maintenance to use mainly molten salt reactors.

So any way you look at it, a combination of solar, nuclear and wind power will be able to provide us with more than enough power. Coal will seem archaic and prices will not skyrocket like coal industry hacks would have you believe.

I personally believe this bill is lukewarm, incremental and generally not what we need however. It's a good start... but if the rate of change we're going for is plunking down a couple solar farms and calling it a day, we'll burn to a crisp before we ever get clean energy. I don't think this bill even mentions nuclear power. We've got to get to a point where we have a WWII-level mobilization of clean energy systems. WWII was funded with over 41% of the economy set aside. This bill calls for less than 1% :emma: I hope we figure this out before it's too late.

TESLA?!??!

Tesla is on the verge of collapse lmaoooo. The company is so in debt because it f*cks around with tech like this that isn't ready on a large scale yet.

Tesla has YET to turn a profit :ladyhaha:

So glad a doomed company is our future :sharon:

Solar energy is the least viable renewable resource we have

I'm literally sitting here laughing at the fact that someone thinks solar energy is viable on a large scale omfgg :ladyhaha:

According to this they have had a quarter of profit recently. Although I heard that they were a little sketchy with the books to achieve it.

I doubt they will collapse any time soon as long as the Model 3 is brought to market within a decent time frame. I believe Tesla isn't really a normal company because of Elon Musk, he seems to do things to help society progress even if he looses money. Gas cars to Electric, Coal to Solar, Space Exploration/Colonization, etc.

Spoiler

"Tesla is unlike most other companies. Unlike other companies, the existence of Tesla is not only to make money. If it were only about this one goal, then I can tell you that the founding of a completely new car manufacturer would definitely not have been the smartest way. Our foundation and the foundation of everything we do is to accelerate the advent of sustainable energy. The welfare of our planet is in great danger, and in order to solve this problem, we need a sustainable solar energy production, we need a sustainable way to store the energy in stationary batteries and we need a sustainable way to consume this energy with electric vehicles. It is critical of the future of humanity to solve this problem – we all want a better world for future generations."  -Elon Musk

Renewables are obviously the future but I doubt any bills like this are passing any time soon. I think we'll have to rely more on companies like Tesla who are willing to aggressively risk more than others  to force change.

Rooting for renewables, rooting for electric cars, rooting for Tesla.

Tesla is a horrid company, they absolutely won't be around long. So so so much debt. The technology just isn't there and the Model 3 isn't projected to sell that well according to market analysts.

The free market has to play the biggest role in renewable investment and development. The damage we've done to the Earth is already done, most climate scientists say we're already f*cked.

It's not like this bill would do ANYTHING to stop climate change lol. The US isn't the one that pollutes this earth the most.

This would hurt our country and the world would still be f*cked

While I briefly mentioned Tesla in the first sentence of my post, I actually stated that a WWII scale mobilization of renewable energy systems on all fronts including solar, nuclear and wind is our future, not Tesla.

Their role in the future of green technology is yet to be determined, but for 2017 their solar shingles will be another step away from fossil fuels, which is the course we need to be taking. Hopefully their continued research creates a product that is cost effective and widely adopted.

You're misinformed to a high and annoying degree. As storage and implementation systems improve, solar will become increasingly viable, and it is already viable. Many Americans power their OWN homes with the OWN solar power and only have to plug into outside sources a few times a year. And as I said, you can STORE solar energy and the systems that do that are improving.

I simply cannot understand why you are defending a dying, dirty industry that is killing the planet instead of brainstorming to solve tough problems. You are literally doing the most and it's ridiculous.

You want to pay more for your electric bill?

Ok.....

Coal is the cheapest source of energy on Earth by farrrr. This would be so expsensive unfortunately :(

Yes....just like I want to pay more for clean water and for my city to not have the pollution level it had back in the 60s and 70s. It costs money to advance, but other developed nations are taking on that challenge for the future. If Europe can work towards clean energy, I don't know why we can't do the same?

Germany is already inside of this "energie transition" and it is going really well!

I am extremely happy and very proud that all nuclear power plants will be deactivated at the end of 2022.

The energy transition is our pathway into a future that is secure, environmentally-friendly, and economically successful. We have decided to fundamentally alter Germany’s energy supply: away from nuclear energy and fossil fuels and towards renewable energy. By 2025, at least 40 to 45 % of our energy is to be sourced from renewable energy, and we want to raise this to at least 80 % by 2050. Also, we are aiming to use energy more and more efficiently.

:)

Ontario has simmilar numbers for renewables. The remaining 60% is mostly nuclear

Our electricity has become expensive AF
