Is Applause Inspired by "Paris is Burning"?

I was watching this LEGENDARY documentary (do it if you haven't; it's gay history) and during a scene, Dorian Corey, a drag queen, said this "It’s still a fame, it’s a small fame, you take it, you like it, you like the adulation, the applause... it’s a high that won’t hurt you." I immediately connected that to Gaga's Applause, the theme of the song and, of course, the lyric video.

This is Dorian Corey during that particular scene:

What do you think, guys? Has anyone ever talked about this before?

I actually re-watched Paris is Burning a couple of nights ago, and I thought the same thing. I think a lot of Gaga's earlier stuff came from Ball culture and gay New York culture.

The lyric video for Applause gives me Paris is Burning vibes.

So, because she's wearing a hair cap and mentioned applause? :emma:

I doubt it. Nice connection, though.

No but you can tell Gaga discovered it right before launching The Fame era lol

I would like to think so, but if it were true Gaga would have mentioned it non-stop in interviews

well i'm sure she knows Dorien Corey and probably someone from the Haus thought it looked similar or something but her inicial idea didnt seem to have anything to do with drag culture.

Love Paris is Burning though. Need to see the modern take on Ballroom culture, the documentary Kiki. Look it up.
