It's very important to manage our expectations with the Oscar talk. Yes, Gaga is an Oscar nominee, and there's tons of Oscar-verified talent working behind the scenes on this film, including the cinematographer (Matty Libatique worked on Black Swan), the editor (three-time nominee Jay Cassidy), and screenwriter (Oscar winner Eric Roth), but it's tough capturing awards voters' attention.

The awards cycle is a tiered beast, one that's difficult to wrangle. Judging by the release date (Sept. 28), Warner Bros. will likely position ASIB at one (or all) of the major fall festivals that typically launch movies into the Oscar race, like Telluride, Venice, or Toronto. My money is on Toronto, which is usually the second/third week of September and caters to more mainstream movie releases for its galas.

A high profile red carpet premiere in Toronto will build tons of buzz, as it does for commercial releases at that festival year after year (The Martian, Deepwater Horizon in recent years) and I wouldn't be surprised if Gaga does a live concert in the street like Pharrell did at TIFF last year to promote the original songs he did for Hidden Figures.

The only thing standing in ASIB's way is the fact that the Academy is still predominantly over 60 and predominantly male -- in other words, it's an old boys club, and that's a group that's particularly set in its ways, and they don't take kindly to women in the industry steering "outside" their given lane. Take Angelina Jolie for example, who was heavily criticized for her directorial efforts (By the Sea, Unbroken) despite the latter being a huge commercial success. I can see the same thing happening to Gaga. Critics might have their daggers waiting to come out for Gaga. It's just what happens to women -- especially singers -- who take a stab at acting after making it big in other professions. It happened to Jennifer Lopez, it happened to Barbra Streisand, it happened to Madonna... and, unfortunately, it could happen to Gaga, no matter how good the film is.

The good news is the Academy's music branch is the only branch that votes on original song nominees, so Gaga will likely wind up with a nomination there, depending on how strong the rest of the competition is in the category that year.

Fingers crossed!

I mean, she can still win an Oscar for best original song. I'll take ANYTHING tbh

That's a while away! I wonder how long will the shoot take, 3 months?

I am not terribly excited about the film. This is giving me Ben Aflleck (accomplished actor, oscar winner, talented film director) and JLo vibes.

No one makes films expecting them to bomb :toofunny: before Gigli Ben Affleck was on his way to become a permanent A-lister.

I beg to differ, people were tired being fed with Bennifer by the time Gigli was filmed, it was tanked cos people sick of them at that point. And people that did went to cinema were let down so that's certainly not helping.

It's not like it's actually fair to compare this with that. :lolly:

We're getting "news" updates on the film via TMZ...

Whats exactly you were trying to say here?

The papz did manage to filmed the filming process but why is it relevant, it's not exactly similiar to press that Bennifer receive?

Provably the wrong thread, but I don't know where else to put it.

Despite the heat and long waits (that's filming though; lots of waiting), going to the filming today was SO much fun! Really once in a lifetime.

I'm super bummed I had to leave after our "lunch" break, at about 6:30, to go home and couldn't watch the rest of the filming. It's a long drive from Indio to Long Beach, so that's about as late as I could have stayed.

Anyways, I'm super excited for this movie and I, for one, am stoked that the music will be country, especially after what we heard today. Bradley Cooper has a GREAT voice for the genre and is pretty good at the guitar too. Gaga...her voice is always so amazing and I really think it fits into this genre so so nicely. She really shines in a different way in country.

We got to listen to two or three songs from the soundtrack and they all were really great to me, but it was hard to judge because they were performing un-mic'd, so it was hard to hear. The one we heard most was about a grave and it's this great, groovy dark country track. We also got a little bit of this country love ballad that sounded gorgeous. I'm so excited for this soundtrack as I actually enjoy some country music.

Gaga looked beautiful. She looked different, but still was Gaga. Hair color was perfect and her styling as this country girl was so good. First outfit was this flaired sleeve floral blouse with some awesome flaired bell bottoms with a slip up each leg. Second outfit a really cute retro looking country girl dress complete with fringed front (LOVED this dress). Third look was more country rocker with a tied up tee, tight pants, and a fringed pattern pancho shawl.

I kinda understand where some of the country tinge in Joanne came from. If she was simultaneously working on soundtrack from ASIB, I can see her being totally inspired by country. That, or Joanne was her first attempt to try some of those sounds to prepare for ASIB.

I also get her releasing "The Cure" a little more now too...not only to hype Coachella but to kinda toss a bone to her fans that only enjoy her dance-pop music because ASIB will be some really great country music. Future CMA? I hope.

Great day! Love being around fellow Monsters.
