London GUY 5,628 Posted April 17, 2017 Share Posted April 17, 2017 You can tell from it being completely omitted from the Superbowl, where it belonged, whereas less deserving songs were sang (Telephone ) and the same thing for the Carpool Karaoke (TEOG), This would originally mean that it would appear she hates ARTPOP as an album, Coachella completely disproved this, Obviously Venus and Sexxx Dreams were performed, and Aura, Swine, Donatella and even Partynauseous were in the opening medley, all of which could of easily been excluded, and Applause itself was merely reduced to an interlude, with a downright lazy backdrop, which considering it's one of her biggest hits, seems confusing, especially when less iconic singles (LoveGame, Alejandro, You and I) were all performed. It makes sense, as the release of Applause-DWUW was an awful time for her, with Monster Vs Katy Kat Stan Wars, Media Flogging and lesser-than-average sales, so I understand why she may want to put this song behind her. Just that she wanted to create a set list that is unique and unpredictable for the fans and she wanted to make something cohesive sounding rather than cramping up all her biggest hits. Telephone is a staple in gagas discography on the side before the cataclysmic fall, and deserved to be played at the SB or on tour or wherever else she damn well pleases! No one cares about applause outside this fan base, and isn't even remembered while telephone is still regarded as an iconic song and video during her peak!
