Does everyone hate Joanne all of a sudden?

I know art is subjective, it's all opinions and whatnot, but I would question anyone who thinks "The Cure" is objectively superior than nearly anything on Joanne. Even ARTPOP, which the fanbase dragged through the mud, sounds edgy and nuanced next to it.

No matter what Gaga does people will hate or harp.

One thing I've noticed with The Cure is that at any given point in Gaga's career she is either being criticized for not being original by casual listeners or for not being original by her fans.

I love the gift she has given us with her talent!

Of course not. We got amazing Gaga music, some that will probably only reveal how poignant and timeless they are.. in time. I'd take another Joanne-esque album again if we get another song with the same ferocity as Diamond Heart, the heartbreak of Joanne, the effortlessly cool dialogue of Hey Girl, the Western charisma of Sinner's Prayer, etc.

Where does this notion come from?

People who enjoyed the album never change. And some of them are also enjoying new song. While some other don't care for it.

Meanwhile, people who hates Joanne still does, and are likely the folks who said things like 'TC is better than Joanne".

We just love to be dramatic about everything :green:

Joanne is an amazing album and The Cure is an amazing modern sounding song. They're both great for different reasons. Live and let live, y'all :poot: The fact of the matter is that Gaga has yet to put out a bad song. There's always some quality to her music, even in something that's being perceived as a "sell out".

Spoiler

Which, btw, do any of you guys even consider that she may have wanted to experiment with this sound? She's done rock, pop, country, ballads, jazz, classical, metal, she can do this house/pop fusion too and the only reason you think it's her selling out or desperately clawing for a hit is because that's what you want to see :poot: You want to be critical and put Gaga in a different kind of box than the one the industry tried to put her in where she's never allowed to do anything unless it's totally innovative or totally retro.

Just my two cents

And this is coming from someone who doesn't even particularly like The Cure :poot:

Many fans have their two faced ways unfortunately. I personally just got Joanne on vinyl and I love it. The Cure sounds really generic to me, designed to be a hit, which is both annoying and admirable at the same time. It just doesn't really bother me too much, the more music the better.

According to Gaga I'm a ****ing rad bitch

Joanne is an amazing album and her second best album behind Born This Way.

It's only because The Cure is fresh this week that people are trashing Joanne, give it a month or so.

This, it happens all the time. When Joanne got released the whole forum was crazy about it, even called an "experimental masterpiece" by some :toofunny: It didn't last long, and let's not talk about ARTPOP...

I give The Cure a week before people realise how crappy it is :giggle: Sorry not sorry :giggle:

Thank you. I don't know much about music so I can't explain it but The Cure is technically so bad and basic...

I love Joanne  so much. I'm not a fan of the new song at all but it's just not my cup of tea. I'm not really into that sound but it was exciting to get a new song and I did buy it none the  less.

I love Joanne so much, I also adore The Cure. Joanne is a fantastic album and low-key could end up as my favourite from Gaga, I love the whole vibe of it; the production is amazing and her vocals are so beautiful throughout.

What I love most about Gaga though is that she is a true chameleon. When she first popped on the scene I think people used that description in reference to her outfits, when actually it is best accredited to her musical ability. The woman can sing anything.

When you look back at her discography and performances so far it's astounding by the amount of variety and the fact that she nails it every time. The country tinge to Joanne is a beautiful example of this; it was so unexpected but perfectly done and then out of the blue she goes and bounces back to pure pop with The Cure. I love it.

I think I'm one of the most easily pleased fans of hers because I'm down for whatever she wants to put out, part of the thrill of being a Gaga fan is the roller-coaster ride and I'm still surprised when fans are surprised at her for consistently doing complete 180's. Did I expect a fun and fantastically commercial song after Joanne? No - I thought her next effort would be rock/blues influenced. It's way easier and a lot more fun to just roll with it.

I also don't think there's anything wrong with her wanting to recapture a mainstream audience. I don't think it compromises her integrity or really contradicts what she stands for and I don't think it makes her a sell out if she's genuinely happy and passionate about the music.

Sometimes I think fans delude themselves a little bit to the point of being pretentious, which actually does a disservice to how fantastic pop music really is. Yes she has pushed and experimented with pop, yes she has been influenced by many genres, but at the heart of it all she sticks to traditional pop tropes: big hooks, catchy melodies and dance beats. Joanne may have been unexpectedly country-influenced and, although there wasn't really a huge hit from the album, songs like A-YO and DIC were clearly designed to be smashes. She performs at mainstream award shows, she and her team make calculated marketing choices, she is not above any of the things other pop stars do to promote themselves and their music. What she is is sincere, passionate and extremely talented, but she is not above pop and nor should she be; pop is an amazing genre of music and the basis of her ENTIRE career.

With Gaga it's about enjoying the ride and understanding that you don't know what she's going to do next, that's the fun of it and it allows you to appreciate her body of work as a whole instead of comparing and contrasting previous eras to one another.

I feel like a lot of you thought I was trashing The Cure, but I love it; it's a great song in my opinion. I just meant that I didn't see people here trashing Joanne until The Cure came out, and I found that strange. :emma:
