kupo 201
I'd imagine she (and Interscope) are looking to build off the little bit of love radio was willing to show her again with MR. And there's nothing wrong with that. Pop stars SHOULD want to write hits. They don't have to build whole albums around it, and they don't have to do it all the time. But mainstream pop speaks a very specific language, and a self-professed pop star should maintain their fluency in that language and be a student of it. At the end of the day, what matters is whether or not it's a well-made song, and The Cure definitely is.
Gaga Monster 13,001
It is 1 SONG. It is an amazing song that will help revive her commercial career. You get new music but still complain and try to stir drama GGD Presidential Elections

I don't think she was forced though, she seemed to really enjoy herself when she was performing the song. I would say the same. They had a big stage and a quite a bit of radio support with MR. Releasing this is absolutely right. Let's hope they send this song to radios right now. And Gaga looked very happy while performing it
Panchecco 17,637
because it's the perfect song for Coachella and the straights™ will love it because it has tropical house vibes and it's very radio friendly there's nothing wrong in giving the straights™ (and some of the gays™ ) what they want
melon 3,590
my thoughts: she obviously enjoyed performing this song so she wasn't forced into it. gags is just experimenting around (country, rock, metal, jazz) and now she's kinda thinking she misses writing a classic pop song in 10 mins that goes diamond everywhere in the world. the cure is a reminder that she will always be able to write a song with deeper lyrics, adapt it with a sound that's popular and run with it better than the rest of the pop industry could ever (I personally don't even think it's extremely on trend, the synth noises are but that's about it) show me to me please
Benji 20,113
We're talking about trends when Joanne's most obvious single choices were A-YO (mash-up of Uptown Funk and Shake It Off), Perfect Illusion (which was Bad Romance 7.2), John Wayne and DIC which were both close to what is currently popular. No hate, I love all of those tracks but Gaga's always been following a trend and puts her own spin on it. Her early career was inspired by UK / European pop, ARTPOP was going for that EDM sound which was popular in 2012 and Joanne has some country and rock vibes but obvious touches of pop. The only album that doesn't really follow trends is Born This Way but even that has tracks that follow her own blueprint etc.

HEARTSTOP 3,143
MAYBE BECAUSE HER FANS ASKED SO MUCH FOR THIS??? I am seriously getting tired of her "fans"... They are never happy with anything, all she does is trying to please them, and even when she does exactly what they asked for, she gets criticized for it. Seriously, let the woman live. TF and TFM we're completely different pop dance records at the time. BTW was a lot darker and different. ARTPOP was Gaga on acid. Joanne was country pop. And now for the first time ever, she went with a very popular trend, the tropical sounding thing. Why? False. Parts of The Fame were completely different. Others weren't. Trends that were set during TF were continued through TFM, BTW, and AP. Songs like Dancin' in Circles on Joanne are most certainly trendy. Just because she released on pop-song that roughly follows radio trends, does not mean anything. I remember during ARTPOP seeing so many comments about how we just wanted to see Gaga let loose, have fun, and release a simple bop without the added dialog. Here we have it. Luc 4,775
After the Superbowl, Gaga said she now remembered how fun it was to be a superstar and on top of the world. She wants a hit again.
LilVenusian 579
Its clearly some pretty rushed damage control. Its got none of the passion and soul that we usually see from a gaga single. Like any pop singer could've song that song and i wouldnt have known it was written by her. She could have pushed Dancin In Circles and maybe remixed it and added a trendy rapper if she wanted a dancey/tropical house type radio song but thats none of my business. God Control 2,181
Because she wants to sell records and continue her career as a singer, and she wants to release music that people listen to and enjoy, not music that she makes and plays for herself nor does she wanna drown into oblivion that no label would want her or give her enough budget to make the extravagant shows and videos that she got famous for. There are so many indie singers that do a much better job with country and rock influenced pop albums or rock and pop than Gaga did in Joanne, and this new move with The Cure is wonderful and I hope it yields an EP that is short, on-point, free of fillers and features a new avant-garde theme that ranges from light tracks like The Cure and perhaps some darker ones like TFM.
