I think that the performance as a whole had a huge message of peace and unity and it's pretty obvious that she wanted Trump and his people/supporters to notice that (which they didn't - because too dumb probably). I think Gaga decided to walk down the stairs and touch her monsters to show that she's very close to her fans and that "she's with us" and as she's touching people's hands you can see her smile and go for a hug when she sees that girl. What I was trying to say was that since Gaga knew how disappointing the results were on election day (especially for the minorities, LGBT+ people, black people, mexican people etc...), when she saw that girl she spontaneously decided to hug her to make her feel loved and not "left out" by America. And my guess is that this spontaneous moment happend during the rehearsals and on Super Bowl day Gaga recreated that moment (I in fact think she seems to recognize the girl) I'm confused tbh I honestly didn't expect people to come at me. Did I say something wrong? If so please explain so that I can understand... I think without context, when you said "girl she hugs has darker skin " it kinda sounded like u were one of those people who think minorities are "overrepresented" in the media and you were annoyed I guess saying "darker skin" is just kinda rude in general

Honestly, you didn't even really need the last half of the first sentence. It was like "hey, she picked her out because she was a minority!" And it doesn't come off that well. And yes, darker skin comes off as rude cause it does kind of group a lot minorities under the same flag and that they're all the same thing. Darker skin can apply to a large amount of races besides those of Hispanic descent.
BornSimon 4,818
Oh God... I need to get off the internet, everything turns into race talk these days and it's become SO BORING. @Panchecco said nothing wrong, he just didn't pretend he didn't see a girl who wasn't white being hugged by Gaga. And I thought the same too, she was singing the word "Stay" and hugged her, I didn't think it was a coincidence considering the message of unity Gaga was trying to convey. Saying "darker skin" is not offensive. Just stop. You're making it incresingly hard to live in this world by being so ridiculously over-sensitive. Yeah "darker skin" groups more than one category of people and generalises, so what? "White" does exactly the same, and if "WHITE PEOPLE ARE SO DUMB OMG" memes can be hugely popular without anyone batting an eyelid then what's wrong with saying that somebody looks darker than somebody else? It's only an offense if you see something wrong with being darker-skinned. Y'all need to lighten the **** up and get off people's necks when there is ZERO proof that they're being racist. Get mad when people are REALLY being racist, and not just to try and come off as socially aware. Social warriors are cringeworthy as ****.
The Fame Joanne 5,985
What is happening? You can't say that someone has dark skin anymore? I mean, come on @Panchecco you did nothing wrong. I also read about that theory you were mentioning and it's not that far of a reach

My intention was not to "categorize" this girl or minimize her as a person. I used the term "darker skin" because I thought was the most rational way of describing her and my point. I thought that the phrase "this girl has a darked tone of skin" was just a fact and it wasn't supposed to mean that I, a white man, see people that have different color of skin then mine JUST AS "darker skin people" without caring about their race or cultural background. If I actually knew this girl I would have said "mexican girl" or "afro-american girl" (examples) to be as accurate as possible but I preferred not assuming her race and just go with the fact that she has darker skin. My intention was NOT to offend anybody and if I did, I'm sorry
IllumiMark 974
I do not think it was intentional, she just shook her hand quickly to be in time to hug the other girl and sing the 'stay' part.
