United Airlines backlash over barring girls wearing leggings

This is discriminating but I see teen girls only wearing leggings all the time and it needs to stop. It literally shows everything

It's their mistake and yes, I do think it looks absolutely atrocious but who cares if that's what they want to wear ?

Everyone outraged over this but be screaming at Muslim women and men for wearing "Muslim looking attire" on airplanes expecting them to be terrorists.

Anyways, we should start banning all lazy attire because it's gotten to the point where it's fashionable to be unfashionable. Ban leggings, sweatpants, running shoes, C R O C S and more tbh

They were on a buddy pass. When you are using the companies buddy pass you follow their dress code strictly. Unfortunately, the employee who gave them these passes will probably lose their flight privileges.

Non-rev passengers used to have to dress up in suits in order to board the aircraft. The last thing people who are getting super cheap flights because of an employee perk should do is try to make a big news story out of the dress code.

 

Edit- just realized it was another passenger who complained on their behalf. Unfortunate  I really hope the employee doesn't lose their flight privileges.

This. United, or any other airline, would not do this to a customer on flying on their own dime, under a general boarding pass. Really disrespectful to turn this into a general dress-code issue when these girls were flying under a specific pass that dictates dress-code and, in doing so, they've jeopardized the privileges of the person who gave them the pass.

Maybe the gate agent was too strict idk. Personally if I was the gate agent, I would probably have followed protocol as well. 

If someone reported these girls to corporate as not following the dress code, the agent could have potentially been fired. Non-rev passengers are a picky bunch. I'd rather play it safe than sorry. 

Whoever gave these passes to the girls should have gone over exactly what is acceptable to wear and what is not. It's a privilege afterall. They are flying for free.

I don't think they'd want to continue wearing if it they realised how it makes them look. Someone needs to show them tough love

It applies to all on the pass. Casual business attire is something as simple as jeans, a blouse, and closed-toe shoes. There's plenty of comfortable options for travel that allow one to look presentable, even teens. 

Company policy, for most airlines, dictate those flying under the buddy pass represent the company and, therefore, should be dressed appropriately. I think wearing closed-toe shoes, pants of some sort, and a nice shirt is an acceptable request when you're flying on a severely discounted ticket.

What is this outrage over leggings? Dress code is fine, but why are some of you guys saying people should not wear leggings at all? (Genuine question. In my country women, and nowadays men too, frequently wear leggings and its acceptable everywhere, for women at least.)

this really is ridiculous tho. i agree that girls should wear something a little less see-through when they are still teens. but..so..wearing leggings isn't covering up enough, yet wearing a hijab is suspicious? there will never be a happy medium & we should just let people wear what they want unless they have nipples or genitalia hanging out in a situation where they shouldn't be. 

as much as i would love to see just leggings & crocs banned from everyone not working out or hiking its not realistic.
