I´ll give you two reasons:

"Dance to the distortion"

"Like a wasted zombie"

How could someone expect success with that kind of lyrics??? :laughga:

But I kinda started to like the song anyway :cryga:

Those lyrics make sense to the theme tho

This is actually in my top 5 of Katy Perry singles, and favorite since Teenage Dream era.

The market just isn't very friendly to female artists lately.

So many have fallen in the last two years.

I think that's what it comes down to more than anything else. Beyonce, Adele and Taylor are the only and I mean the ONLY truly successful female names at the moment on a world scale. Everyone else is struggling like hell. Whether they're one hit wonders that can't get their latest efforts noticed (Meghan Trainor, Lorde), new artists who still haven't made their mark despite a hit or two (Fifth Harmony, Zara Larsson) fairly new artists going through a bumpy patch (Ariana), big names struggling somewhat after a good number of years in the industry (Rihanna, Gaga, Katy), names that were big once but are basically irrelevant now (J-Lo, Shakira) or legendary names struggling to sell at all (Madonna, Kylie) women are enduring a hard time right now. Last year was a true "male year." There were only 3 songs that went to #1 in the UK last year that consisted of a female vocalist (and 2 of them were just as a featured verse and had men on it too). The public simply isn't feeling female artists right now which is such a shame as they're usually the ones making the best music.

Ariana's Dangerous Woman era has done pretty well despite the underperformance of 4th single Everyday.

Yes, but it's not a patch on her 2 previous eras. She's only had one true hit from this era (Side To Side) and even that was only a hit in a handful of countries, look it up. Dangerous Woman, the single, was a big risk and it didn't pay off commercially but Into You was totally commercial yet was all but ignored on the charts. Everyday is also highly commercial and isn't going anywhere. The album is also her lowest seller (even her debut sold more in the US despite only having one hit as well) and her tour isn't huge despite her becoming a big star now. Even Gaga's Joanne album has sold more despite her being older and not as relevant and her tour's bigger too. But this isn't a bash at Ariana, honestly, I'm just telling it like it is. Like I said, every female's struggling, it's not a slanderous thing to suggest that someone isn't doing that well these days.
