If you wanted Marry The Overrated Bore to win you should have put just that alone on the poll and that's it. Judas? TIHTY? Really?! Lol. The only one which didn't deserve to flop in those options is G.U.Y. because of the marvelous music video and because the song is great, but at that point in time it was kinda expected for it to flop because the era was pretty much dead, radio stations boycotted it and overall people weren't there for our Gags. ARTPOP was a little rough in some places, but other places were pure pop perfection. I'm not saying that G.U.Y. is a better song or a more artistic video than Marry the Night (because it's probably not). But it's flop (and the sheer extent of its flop) are just incomprehensible to me. Honestly, if G.U.Y. had been the lead single (before all of the drama and the negativity spiral), I swear it would have been a #1 or #2 hit. Marry the Night in real terms DESERVED more success than it received, but the reasons that it didn't receive more success are apparent. It's artistic. It's not for everyone. Ergo, it makes sense that not everyone would immediately jump on it in the way that would make it a #1 hit. Also, as a work of art, I think Marry the Night really does get quite a bit of recognition. I don't know that I would even really call its #29 peak as the 5th single a "flop." More of just a bit of an underwhelming commercial performance. Many artists will refer to their song as a "hit" if it peaks in the top 40. It got enough radio airplay that it is a reasonably recognizable song. G.U.Y. on the other hand, got essentially no sales whatsoever & no radio airplay for a song that SOUNDS like it should have been a top 5 hit. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

G.U.Y. and Perfect Illusion's underperformance were understandable. It's not the GP who rejected Gaga, which is the case in Marry the Night, it is Gaga who didn't promote the songs at all. So Marry the Night is the only anomaly here, which flopped despite heavy promotion (Ellen, EMAs, some Japan show, Grammy nominations concert, X Factor UK, Thanksgiving special, UK Children in Need event, Alan Carr) Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

In Germany the radio played G.U.Y Not really often and it wasn't a big succes I allways thought G.U.Y should have been the leadsingle.
