I agree with this. But he isn't the right person to say it.

The problem is this common sense that everybody HAS to be the BIGGEST artist. It's so childish of him to think that. Most of the artists he was shading knew very well what they were doing and that they were backing down from mainstream success, but it's just that they decided that it was more important to them making music they respect than just having the #1 single in the charts, once they were wealthy enough not to be crazy about making tons of money.

What y'all butthurt about? Gaga has literally changed her second singles because of the charts ever since Born This Way up until Joanne.

And? How does that change the kind of music she makes?

So true.  In Gaga's case it was her close collaboration with her genius team that made 'Lady Gaga' so huge up until 2011. When the ARTPOP debacle went down and she basically :fthis: all the people she worked with I think she stopped seeing Lady Gaga as a artistic marketing 'project' they had all started together and with Joanne she remade Gaga into an actual part of herself. The main difference is that before, she was actively seeking 'The Fame' and creating experimental pop albums, now she sees the Lady Gaga brand as a way to express her own vision and artistic ideas. Might not get us as much success, but I believe the Gaga we're seeing now has been the same all along, she just never took her brand fully into her own hands.

I don't think it's so much of being a 'puppet,'  moreso treating your brand as a business and working to make it as successful as possible vs. taking full creative control and releasing things for your own personal reasons.

Dear ed Sheran, you are not even realizing that your talent is being used to make money and you are defending the people who are manipulating yourself. I guess it's feeding your ego and you love it.

Surprise! People go to work to make money! :awkney:

Good for him for continuing his successful music business

We are not talking about a regular person going to work  to survive, we're talking about a person that have decided to make unintersting music for money ( with already million$). I'm okay with that but don't act like a d!ck towards people that have decided to keep their music integrity ( like the woman this site is dedicated to) :)

He's been bullied all his life for being ugly / looking like a f*cking hobbit.

Chart success is for him a way to feed his broken ego and take his "revenge" on life. In other words, he's doing it for the wrong reasons. Karma will eventually hit him very hard.

Clearly he's only in it for the money. If that's the case he's not wrong.

Now and ARTIST who actually values their art over profits would disagree.

I mean, I guess he's right if all you care about is commercial success.

I don't really have much respect for bling not the music, so that cocky and irritating attitude he has can exit stage left  :reductive:

Marketing and business wise, he is right, but you aren't supposed to say it out loud in front of fans and the GP. It was wrong of him to say like this, he really needs to stop.

I don't believe this quote in the OP is about Gaga.

Gaga doesn't change her singles, her label does. She supports their decisions.
