Everyone I know who has seen La La Land has described it as a very generic feel-good movie. Again, though, I haven't seen it either, so I can't make a call myself. I found the movie stale, cliche and was unimpressed with the songs and the way they sang them. And that's coming from someone who loves musicals. And it played a big part in why it won. Were the characters gay? Yes. But it challenges what the gay lifestyle is in every way. It is the least generic film imo. I know you're hurt that La La Land lost but I don't get why you're so against this movie. I would have been happy if any other film won. Obviously La La Land is an artistic masterpiece, winning Oscars for best director, actress, production design, cinematography, and original score and song, but for Moonlight to win best picture simply because it "controversially" deals with a gay black guy?
