No some people aren't defending her. They are just saying that what she did was great because obviously the idea of refusing to wear a veil to a political meeting is acceptable obviously.

I'm on Le Pen's side on this one. Not for the rest though, but let's not be hysterical, nobody would allow Le Pen shake up France or even less leave the EU or bring in the Franc. The fact that this is a contrived PR stunt doesn't make her point any less valid, neither does her contemptible political agenda.

If she is required to show a different level of modesty when meeting with religious leaders based on her gender alone, she is right to reject that request for modesty. Whether she is meeting with the Pope or a Muslim cleric, she should be treated the same as her male counterparts.

Her argument, however, is worthless. Marine Le Pen was informed yesterday that the Mufti would only meet her if she covered her head with a scarf, but she still showed up anyway with the only purpose to be as controversial as she possible.
