Covergirl's cover boy Africa and Ebola controversy

Modern Ecstacy

As someone who was born in Africa and lived 3 years of my life in another African country, I am really annoyed by things like this. I'm sick of people thinking of Africa as all the same. Sure, we have problems but so does every country/continent. But for the most part, we have everything that the rest of the world does. We have cars, we have malls, we have buildings , we have internet, we have swimming pools. Not everyone here is dying of hunger or Ebola or AIDS
I was really glad when James decided to write that apology letter until I saw the word "country" :toofunny:

Absolute Mess.

Jesus Christ, the boy is 17 and was joking with his friends. What is more disgusting is how eager many of you are to jump on him for making a mistake.

Have you saints never said anything ignorant in your lives?

Have you never accidentally misused a word like he did with country / continent?

I don't find what he said as bad as him feeling the need to tweet it tbh :saladga: like sure be an ignorant d**k, we all are at some point. But you're the image of a famous brand, don't be su dumb and keep it private.

Will no longer be purchasing Cover Girl cosmetics because their tweets make it seem okay that this was said. Even if he's 17, to say those things when he already had a platform was extra. Bad judgement shouldn't be rewarded, only punished.

Well, at least not on social media while being in the position where you represent a brand.

When you're a public figure you are in a position where everything you say and do has larger consequences than regular people.

Plus his atttitude and blocking people who called him out speaks volumes of his character.

He will be an adult in the next year. Learn.

While we may say jokes among our friends, here's the thing, most of us know not to post said jokes online because we know only our friends get our humor.

We also know posting whatever you say online is a nice way to kill any future career movements. As explained above, he represents a brand. He needs to be treated like a representative. He has an actual job. If he doesn't have the know how that he should think before he posts, he needs to learn, and so has.

He probably doesn't realize all the responsibilities being a public figure entails. Isn't he recently 'famous'?
