Why I Sympathise with The BeyHives

So it came as a not-so-much shocker that Beyonce was unsuccessful in snatching any of the main awards from last night's show while Adele secured all her wins. However, if you've listened to both Lemonade and 25 you'd know that both albums are incredible and the competition was mainly between those two. Beyonce delivered her most personal and uplifting album to date and she paired it with an incredible visual piece. However, Adele also delivered a vocally superior album but follows along closely to her two previous work, 21 and 19. No secret that Bey's album did not match up to the commercial behemoth 25 was and it was no surprise Lemonade impacted culture the way it did. So, how can the Grammys choose between these two pieces? It's a question that we may never get answered.

But the thing is, although I am pleased that 25 deservingly won, I am also sympathetic towards the BeyHive and their emotions after suffering such a loss. Beyonce's main aim was to uplift the African American community in America and share her experience. It was an album of deep southern music that showcasedBeyonce in a new light. An album of pride and power. That was Beyonce's aim, to empower the unempowered. I respect that and that meant a lot to her fans and to many others. It broke cultural norms that I will not delve into because we were all aware of its impact. This reminds me a bit of the significance of Born This Way. Similarly, Gaga's goal was to uplift the at the time, troubled LGBTQ community. A community that was facing so much hardships because of the DADT issue, the marriage issues, and rampant homophobia. She brought out an album that served as a cohesive anthem, not only for the LGBT people but also for victims of bullying and identity issues. I myself have Gaga to thank because her empowering album saved me from taking my own life. I was 13 when that album came out and it was a hard time for me concerning many of my personal family issues. This one album was so uplifting, each and every track was special to me. Naturally, in 2012 when it came to the Grammys, I was excited that a work that was so personal to me because each of my harsh experiences was now embedded in those songs (now when I listen to Marry The Night, I remember plugging in my earphones and blasting it when my dad and mom were fighting and he was hitting her). This album is the product of my escapism. It still is. But when Adele walked up and collected that award for AOTY instead of Gaga, I felt so much pain. Yeah, I was 14, yeah it may have been immature to care about an award. But the AOTY is more than just an award, it's a piece that signifies something so impactful in that year (well at least then it was). I remember turning off my TV and running into my room with tears in my eyes. I had never ever felt so much disappointment over something like this before. I loved 21 but Born This Way was my album, it was so dear to me. That's why I understand 100% what the BeyHives are going through. To have an uplifting album, something you hold so dear to you be snubbed in that way, it was hurtful. However, I hope they understand, as I did years ago that the music always remain. It's always there.

The Fame losing to Fearless was much more tragic. That being said,  I feel nothing for the Beyhive. Beyonce is a celebrated artist. Lemonade has the same impact it did two days ago, a Grammy win...in the end, means little. The Beyhive are quite capable of being nasty, mean, cruel to others...so they should be able to handle Beyonce losing a few Grammys...

Once I realized how little of Lemonade was Beyoncé's orginal content, it cemented that Adele deserved to win for me

I not sure how much she actually even wrote?

Thank you. Someone understands, cuz that's how o feel.

The BeyHive is an awful fan base, but still, I have never been more upset, even thought that I known it's just a stupid award.

I’m a simple guy to please, if you like Melodrama, we chill.

I will never feel sorry for Beyonce for her losses last night. Adele put more of her own work into 25. She has more writing credits for her name, and so few others. It's only fair to go towards her when it is more of her own original content.
