ItsTommyBitch 12,640
Looks like "Religious freedom" bills are going to be the law of the land for who know's how long. It's gonna be a long time before people finally grasp that using religion as an excuse to discriminate against people doesn't absolve them of being shitty people 私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから
SKANK 14,288
Trump is a Republican who nominated a Conservative judge to the Supreme Court, just as Hillary would have nominated a Liberal judge to the Supreme Court. That is how it works.

That is how it works. This isn't why people are upset. It is not unheard of for people on both sides of the aisle to nominate candidates that while classifiable as "liberal" or "conservative" have history of working across the aisle and being even remotely moderate. Take Obama's nomination of Merrick Garland to the SC just last year. Take the current chief justice John Roberts. He's a conservative that has been well known for placing moderate votes based on what he believes in and not necessarily what is the most quintessential belief of his party. Ofc it is easy to want to just put in the most liberal/conservative judges on the court as you can in order to stack things, but I don't think that's the most healthy way for it to work. Chances are, if Hillary had the opportunity to nominate several justices, she probably would have nominated a moderate judge at some point. 私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから

Considering Trump's cabinet appointees, Liberals should be a least not be terrified about this Supreme Court nomination. He isn't a particularly Trumpian choice. 4 minutes ago, malazam said: She could nominate a conservative one too. Hillary is not the biggest liberal of all....... There is no reason to believe Hillary would have nominated a Conservative judge, just as there was no reason to believe Trump would not have nominated a Conservative judge. They both made it explicitly clear during the primaries who they would nominate to the court. 3 minutes ago, ItsTommyBitch said: This isn't why people are upset. His third nomination, made during his lame duck period, was moderate because it was his only hope of getting a third judge appointed. Gorsuch isn't a radical nomination. It's almost certain all of Trump's Republican primary opponents would have put him at the top of their list of perspective nominees. Hillary said many times during the campaign that she would apply a liberal litmus test to all judges she would consider nominating to the Supreme Court. That'll be the moment we get a president-elect (after November). The radical Republican congress refused to do their jobs in the name of politics.
