Illuminati 15,917
everyone says shape of you sounds like cheap thrills but forgets the important detail - both songs were written with Rihanna in mind. yet she ended up not putting out anything similar enough. i find that quite interesting

Ok, he might have just said it off the cuff without thinking but he was just talking about Taylor a few questions before! If he's so focused on success and keeping track of who's sold the most in recent years to see how he measures up, then why is he making clear errors when it comes to facts? Maybe he was just quoting UK sales, though. But if that's what he meant, he should have said that. And maybe clarified it on Twitter along with his other verifications. 6 hours ago, Sure Joanne said: everyone says shape of you sounds like cheap thrills but forgets the important detail - both songs were written with Rihanna in mind. yet she ended up not putting out anything similar enough. i find that quite interesting That is quite interesting. Rihanna's clearly moving past that sound that she's become known for and wants something a bit edgier, a bit more real. So, when people come to her with ideas for a generic club bop, the concept doesn't thrill her anymore. Still, I'm sure she is quietly annoyed that she turned down Cheap Thrills as it was a massive hit that could have been another career defining moment for her. But yeah, if these songs are being written for her and she's turning them down, that suggests that maybe they're a bit old hat? That it's time for something new? And if that's the case, maybe it's not such a trend-setting idea? I mean, Rihanna was making music like Cheap Thrills and Shape Of You a decade ago. What makes Ed think such a sound is new?
