From the songs you listed Alien is the best one, I like the chorus when she says "not alone, not alone". But ultimately, her voice isn't cutting it for me. Well if her voice isn't cutting it for you then there's no chance that you'll like her songs. Maybe try listening to some of her unreleased songs such as Let Go & Everyday. ‘If religion be the cause of disunity, then irreligion is surely to be preferred.’ ‘Abdu’l-Bahá

StrawberryBlond 14,820
I feel the same way. Yeah, she may not have the best vocals (though she sure did before her record label f****d it all up with their unnatural singing techniques which they pushed on her) and her music may not be the deepest or written by her but she can play piano, she can still dance and her music is great fun and there's nothing wrong with fun. And I grew up with her, she's the first solo artist I ever liked and the nostalgia, the memory of childhood, will always be part of my love for her. And the reason why I continue to respect her despite the fact that she lipsynchs, doesn't have the best voice, doesn't write her own work (for the most part) and doesn't make overly thought-provoking work...is because she never claims to be anything more than a fun pop artist. Knowing what you are and not being afraid to say it is key in my respect for a celebrity. I can't stand all these singers now who go around saying that they're an 'artist' and that their music is so personal to them when they barely write, can't play an instrument, get their whole career managed for them. They're products, not artists. And the worst thing is, they won't admit to it, they choose to be fake, to give the impression they're more involved and artsy than they really are. But Britney is just herself. She knows what she is and what she isn't. And in a world where being fake can get you far, it's very refreshing. 11 hours ago, Helxig said: She's sort of the first of her kind in a way. Young girl, taken advantage of, sexualised too early, not control over her life, total spiral. It's like she was the experimental child of the pop industry where anything was allowed to go. And from her, we all learned some really big lessons about how to treat people and how far a human can be pushed, both the GP and the music industry. But she fought through a very public mental breakdown, at a period in time where there was no social conscience regarding celebrities. She was just entertainment for people to laugh at and gossip about. But she got through it all, got healthy, and built a new life from scratch. I don't blame her for lip syncing after all of that. She grew up with no normal life skills. You couldn't expect her to do anything different for a living. It's also unrealistic to expect her to lead a normal life after having no experience in that world. And she probably has a real disdain for the music industry and doesn't want to write music any more. She might not have any vocal talent left at this point in time either after everything she went through. So we should let her be content in doing what she does. And in doing that, she still sells out night after night at her Vegas residency. Because people want to see the icon, the legend, the girl who almost became a martyr to fame and the media. Britney Spears! Very good, thought-provoking post. It does seem like she was some sort of human experiment, to see how far we could push a young person in the limelight. Purely so we could learn lessons from it. Just like any medical experiment that ever happened to determine what was harmless and harmful to humans and how much it would take to go from harmless to harmful. Basically, we know what makes us physically and emotionally ill because there was experiments carried out to test what these things were. Very morbid when you think about it that way. She's rumoured to lipsynch because her vocal chords are totally destroyed from singing in that fake voice all those years. So, it's not like she doesn't want to sing live, it's likely that she physically can't, at least not in the style that these songs require. True, she doesn't have many life skills. Those close to her say that she can barely operate a computer. That's why she doesn't really communicate online (there's no way her Twitter is actually used by her, that's totally management). She used to use it for online shopping but then she went on a mad spree and spent too much and under her conservatorship, her dad took her credit card away. She's got a personal chef, so she's not used to cooking for herself. She's driven to most places. Every expense is supplied for her, she doesn't have to pay for anything. But it's hardly like it was all down to the conservatorship. She's been under this control since she was 16, before she was even a full-grown adult. If that's all you've known all your life, it's harder to break. I should know. I'm still living with my parents at 27 and wish I was more independent and need to start living more like an adult. Maybe that's why Britney connects - this side of things is one I can relate to! 10 hours ago, Cerny said: I have only listened to her hits and they're catchy but not something I'd listen to repeatedly. She probably has some hidden gems but I don't know where to start. I'd highly recommend The Hookup from In The Zone, Ooh Ooh Baby from Blackout and Liar from Glory. They're some of my all-time favourite works from her if we're talking about non-singles.
