It's not necessary for albums to be instant number ones like you all think, you are all way too wrapped up in the performance of albums and singles. It is not what makes an artist an icon or a musician an icon. You all need to stop acting so obsessed with performance and start actually paying attention to the musical content and messages and where the lyrics Gaga is writing come from, not all this fodder about pop mainstream sellability and sales. A lot of the greats have had underground albums and low key songs that didn't hit the mainstream and albums that didn't sell well that have become iconic over the years. Educate yourselves. I'm going to bring up Beyonce for example, sure she has a couple big albums that sold well first week but so what? Media acts like she's this great artist but come on, what has she done that's truly iconic or memorable? She just farts out an album that is created by 100 people and gives zero memorable performances, acts like she's too hot to appear on talk shows and give interviews, she just makes her husband money and disappears, that is not indicative of a true icon or legend. Bad example given. Lemonade was the most critically acclaimed album maybe even for this decade, the same goes for the previous album Beyonce. For an artist, you either go big on critics or charts, or go home.

E24187 615
Beyonce is more of a brand than an icon so I see what you were going for, but her team created many memorable catch phrases and quips that, while didn't push album sales or singles' chart performance, kept her in the forefront of public consciousness so that's a bad comparison

Musically, I actually think Joanne is on a par with her best albums. Her 'bling' was insanely cool during The Fame Monster and Born this Way era, but now she's all about the music. If I could have the music and the bling, that would be cool, but I'll settle for just the music.
Oscar 1,031
Beyoncé could actually help you prove your point especially because she hasn't had a song on the radio for years yet her albums continue to sell. This is coming from a nonstan too

Is bizzare to see fans make excuses after excuses for the lack of gusto for Joanne. Is a meh album and we know it, Gag knows it. No more excuses, she tried something new and it didn't work. Shes gonna rebrand her self for the Super Bowl. God I hope she comes full force and the stupid pink hat is burned on stage.

Did Joanne change or impact the music aspect of pop music? I mean, you can love the album that's great but musically is literally a pissapointemnt. I don't care if it will be remembered or not, I just enjoy it for what it is now. I don't think it's groundbreaking or anything, but I think the music is good. The fact that it is a disappointment for you doesn't make it a bad album, just a bad album for you. Several things are better on this album than on previous albums. Her voice really shines (no autotune), the rhythms are more interesting and varied (not just simple disco rhythm), and several songs have quite good chord progressions. All of this will probably make the album last, for me. Although I love her music, her music has never been that groundbreaking, to be honest. The hits will of course be remembered because they were hits, but it was her style and attitude which was groundbreaking. If Lady Gaga has had an impact, it's through her style, not through her music.

And I'd rather Gaga be an album artist than a singles artist, it's better in the long run was NickARTPOP
