i know this is not arianadaily and there are a few threads of Ariana right now but just now im tying all the dots

her debut album had a terrible cheeky cover, a bunch of Mariah Carey samples and a terrible first single and MV planned, she had everything to be buried in pop's flops

honestly props to her team/management for correcting all that, imagine what could have happened if she released all those terrible ideas, would she still go on with her career, also i guess it doesn't matter much since she went really mainstream with her 2nd album and with Problem but she couldn't even got to the sophomore albunm if the first was a flop

i mean she already had the huge benefit of having a fanbase and income from being on TV + she can actually sing, they just had to keep trying until something stuck lol

mother, what must i do?

Like every disney girl, there’s the moment where the old men in the suits tells them that if they want success and a career post disney, they need to ditch the cute girl and become the sexy girl.

And this is what she did, and I’m glad she’s back to her old self with the last 2 albums, because her true self is a soft, almost fragile, and kind person like a petal.

She was a Nickelodeon star so that worked for her really well, it'd have been difficult as a brand new singer to have a hit single or album as a debut but she did well. I didn't know about her until Problem though so that song was everywhere and I had no idea about her and that Iggy feature at that time would've put her on the map regardless.

She comes from an incredibly wealthy family and her mom was meeting with all these important producers behind the scenes. Ariana is kind of like Taylor in a sense, as in she was groomed by her own family from a very young age to become a star.

"The Way" Debut #10 (219,000 first week sales)

"Baby I" Debut #21 (141,000 first week digital downloads)

I think we need to re-consider what a flop is...

She rebranded as a sex kitten and dropped her retro 60's-esque cutesy pop for more current pop/RnB music (with some trap beats later) and featured the hottest names at the time on her songs and it was a recipe for success. Critics preferred her old style at first but quickly came around to the point where they were ranking her work in the high 80's. So of course she'll stick with it. Sex sells, current trends sell. It's not that hard to figure out.

Technically it was The Way (#9) in 2013 but it was when she put out Problem (#2) in 2014 that she broke through and never looked back.

Girl you need to read better I didn’t call her a flop, I said her debut seemed to go creatively to a disaster with its cover and first single/MV she corrected that trajectory miraculously, with a better album cover and better picked singles as you showed they did good

Absolutely and the difference from her and Victoria is that her character was very loved by the people and differentiated her from the real person, poor Vicky she had a plain character and on top of that her music was basically an extension of Victorious no wonder why people was uninterested :messga:

I knew Ariana’s music because of Problem too, that’s literally her global debut, at the time I didn’t even know she had a previous album already released :huntyga:
