It did extremely well in America. The rest of the world, not so much because that type of rap doesn't really catch on internationally. It only went to #2 in the UK because we were still using the pre-order system at the time and it was on pre-order for 2 months and it also included sales of the clean version. Plus, rap fans are extremely loyal and religiously buy/stream/watch whatever their fave does. In the pop world, however, fans are fickle. Rap is right up there with country when it comes to fan loyalty. These acts have a headstart before they've even released an album purely because of the genre they've affiliated with.

Peacock wasn't a single and Birthday was a single and failed miserably, with even its music video failing to crack the 100 million mark even after nearly 3 years, unheard of for a Katy Perry video. Seriously, it came out at the same time as GUY and despite being shorter, only having one version and being more GP friendly, it has less views and likes. And if you want more evidence of dirty pop songs failing to catch on, just look at how Britney's recent songs did on the charts. When it comes to doing a dirty pop song, you have to tread so carefully. The key to doing it successfully is being very young, very hot, shrouding your song in metaphors, being super generic and have a rap guest feature say the naughty stuff. That's why Side To Side can be a hit but anything from an older, lesser attractive (though I disagree in Gaga's case) pop artist using honest lyrics will not.

I mean, you can say all these things, but the truth is, Dancin in Circles is radio friendly. It doesn't matter if Gaga is not at her peak, she can still release. Is it going to see success? Not if the single preceding it flops, if there ever is a single preceding it after Million Reasons. I think it's trivial to make these hypothetical assumptions and situations. If it was something like Scheiße, I would agree with you, but Dancin in Circles is acceptable if Gaga can talk about disco sticks, ear condoms, doing what she wants with her body. Pop can be explicit as any other genre can be, and Dancin in Circles will find some radio success under certain conditions and circumstances which depend on the prior success of a single

Next you're gonna tell me John Wayne is too explicit for radio because it talks about sex and drug use? There are so many songs that are explicit and make it big on radio. Radios are not as prudish as you are making them out to be. What do you make of Side to Side? Are you going to say Ariana is at her peak? She's already peaked by your definition of peak if you consider LoveGame to be when Gaga was at her peak; by that assertion Ariana was at her peak with Problem

I don't know, I just feel as if you're trying to make certain assertions which put you in the right, and instead of looking at the reality at hand and the industry at hand, you're trying to think like a literal soccer mom which is not how the industry works and is not the audience Gaga is trying to go after with Dancin in Circles, more so with Joanne as a whole

Are people forgetting that Blurred Lines was a massive hit?  That song is dirtier than DIC and creepier than DWUW ever could be.  

Bound 2 peaked at number 12, which is Kanye's dirtiest hit and his biggest solo hit in a while.

DIC is dirty but it's more fun dirty than anything.  The sound of it is radio friendly.  

Remember one of her most iconic lines ever? "Let's have some fun, this beat is sick, I wanna take a ride on your disco stick".  Love Game was a big hit.  

I feel it is destined to be a hit.

Give it a great music video. Not some lazy snooze fest.  I mean something with crazy weird visuals that's expected from Gaga.

Perform the song on talk shows.  With actual dancing and over the top outfits.

 

Maybe I am being bias because the song is in my top 5 favorite songs of the year.  Already one of my favorite Gaga songs ever.

Its not by any means one of my favourites but i too feel that Diamond heart is her best options for a single

I think it could be a hit. If "I Touch Myself" by the Divinyls became a hit in the 90s, so can DIC. But, it can't be certain. I notice she likes to leave fan faves to just her fans, and the one time she did release a fan fave (GUY), it failed massively.  Maybe she knows this, therefore DITD and Schiesse were never released.

Dancin' In Circles: I think it would be a moderate hit, but not a no. 1 smash. In my opinion, the song is very monotomous, like it doesn't have that drop, but it has this summery, Ace of Base vibe.

John Wayne: This is like "Mary Jane Holland". Not really that radio friendly, but very Gaga. It's too complex and loud for a radio single but it would work with well-executed visuals.

A-YO: I am really glad (but lowkey not really) that this isn't the 2nd singlw because Gaga is known for her dance bop songs but after 8 years it would really be a time for a slow ballad single. If this becomes a single, I think it would be a moderate, top 10 hit.

Diamond Heart: In my opinion, it would be a perfect single for the Super Bowl. A mediocre hit, but I feel like it would smash as another one of her #1 hits.

Don't call me bias, cause John Wayne and Dancin' In Circle are both one of my favorites in the album.

if DIC becomes a single and it isn't as well-received as people want it to be I think that would be one of the biggest meltdowns this site has ever had, and we've had some pretty bad ones...
