What do you honestly think is the reason behind Gaga's wigs, outfits, ect?

I was re watching the emotion revolution summit yesterday and Gaga talked about how she used fashion as a way to cope with her past. She needed to transform and "become someone else"  and run away from her own self to feel strong. Eventually though, that tactic didn't work anymore and she needed to heal the wounds that caused her pain instead on just putting a bandaid on it. She also talked a lot about this during the ARTPOP era. But, during BTW Gaga specifically said that she dressed exotically because she was brave enough to express herself through her fashion, not that the clothes made her brave. 

I do think that the outfits were mainly a coping mechanism and she probably didn't even realize it at the time. So, I don't think she was ever lying. Maybe she just didn't know what she was feeling? But I do think that she also simply enjoys interesting clothes and her outfits were a form of creative expression as well, so its kind of confusing. I guess it could be both at the same time?

What are your thoughts?

I think she just wanted to use fashion the same way she uses pop music = MAKE ART

She's absolutely one of a kind because of her (and her team's) bold and crazy fashion statements. She understood from the beginning that in an ocean of popstars, she would stand out by looking different, conceptual and futuristic. 

And we all love her for that!

I think it's like people with addictions (which she also had)

They say it helps them heal, puts a balm on their wounds, but it's actually a way to avoid those wounds, and just makes them pile up.

That's, I think, why people say she's contradicting herself on this: she just wasn't aware of it.

you kind of did explain this verse in your original question. 

its like LG is saying that all those outfits are her burqa, thats how she shields herself, her real self, from everything & everyone else. and that each outfit really is her giving a visual to a feeling, an emotion. its her passion being fleshed out.

I completely disagree.

I believe that Joanne-Ga is sort of an act she pulled because the GP doesn't like the Gaga theatrics (not completely). I mean, come on, look at her childhood. She was ALL theatrics. Joanne is "also" very theatric but not in the most avantgarde way, which is fine.

Fashion is tricky. It can hide so much but yet it can also reveal things that one cannot reveal with anything else.

A little bit of all these things... She did it to show her "Gaga" self, the little creative being in her, to gain confidence even if she didn't quite realize it at the beginning. But it was and is also for artistry, she still likes it, she just doesn't feel the need to wear 100 different crazy outfits a day anymore because it's tiring and at the end she's spending more energy on this and not on her health. I don't like the "oh she was/is lying, she does it for marketing, blah blah", the human being is just complex, there isn't one answer or solution to everything.
