Added to the list o things that should not exist...

Death Note is an upcoming American film directed by Adam Wingard, based on the manga series of the same name. Staring Nat Wolff as Light, Keith Stanfield as L, and Willem Dafoe as Ryuk. Instead of taking place in Japan, the movie takes place in Seattle, Washington. It has been said this film will be bloodier and gorier, being first adaptation of Death Note to receive an R rating.

The movie is set to premiere exclusively on Netflix in 2017.

There is so much no in this.

Loved the show. Let's see what they can come up with.

I don't trust American's with any adaptation of Japanese media.

The japanese even f*uck it up.

Though I suppose we're supposed to be looking at this as distilled adaptation, not a kept true version.

However, it's gonna suck. Probably.

I won't judge before I get a glimpse but I don't see it ending well.

Probably not.

They'd probably screw up anime/manga set up in America.

At least they're adapting the story to the surroundings instead of casting caucasians as Japanese people :toofunny:

I'll give them that, honestly.

But it's gonna end badly either way. The adaptation has already raised eyebrows with the casting of L. Not that Keith shouldn't play L, it's just that his ultimate eccentricity is his whole. His look was a part of that.

On the casting of Death Note:

"Our vision for Death Note has always been to... introduce the world to this dark and mysterious masterpiece. The talent and diversity represented in our cast, writing, and producing teams reflect our belief in staying true to the story’s concept of moral relevance — a universal theme that knows no racial boundaries.”

Totally trying to sidestep the issue of whitewashing, but failing miserably :madge:

I know only the basic premise of the show, but I think it will turn out pretty good.

Adam Wingard is an acclaimed modern horror and thriller Director. And Netflix puts out great shows and movies effortlessly.

"My people… need to let our bitchiness out. Otherwise, it turns to bile and poisons us"

I'm gonna play clairvoyant and say the "Movie" tag has the same color as the "serious" tag leading lego to assume you're gonna post your Death Note :green:

Quite frankly the film is set in America, so whitewashing isn't an issue. Especially less-so when the second male lead is played by a black man.

The basic premise isn't really good enough, since it becomes more about Light's god/messiah complex as times goes on. The story isn't really about the Death Note, but Light's prerogatives, his volition.

It isn't really a horror. I guess it's considered thriller, but it's hard to classify such things.

However, most American adaptations of Japanese anime/manga suck. Not to mention, Death Note has become an embarrassing footnote in this generation's times as it is considered one of the many weeab animes of our time despite it having an excellant story.

RAMROD

I think I know I will be let down by this one.

Just like I did to these Ringu and Ju-On sequels and prequels that kept spawning cos it doesn't make sense anymore, or like I did with Attack on Tian live action which are total fcking BS directed by a fcking tool who changes everything for the sake of doing it and be different.. :neyde:
