Why do people hate Beyonce and Lemonade?

It is 100% jealousy and don't quote me.

They say she's overrated, but if the media talked about gaga like that, they would be thriving because of it.

As Beyoncé has risen, gaga has fallen (not much, but she's no where near 2009-2011) and this fan base has a problem with seeing other artists perceived as "competition" do good.

I’m a simple guy to please, if you like Melodrama, we chill.

Lol maybe for some people, but you are overgeneralizing here.

Beyoncé is said to be overrated not only by this fanbase but also all kinds of people, and not just stans.

I mean, Formation being nominated for ROTY? That song is litterally awful :toofunny:

It's better than literally every other nominee. Work. Really?

Personally, I liked her self-titled album better.

From a visual album perspective, Lemonade was better, but I do not like the music as much. I watched the Lemonade video twice and loved it, but was never interested in listening to the album again. I only put 6 Inch and Formation on my playlist.

I mostly say I hate Lemonade on here because it makes Beyonce fans really angry and defensive like our difference in opinion actually matters at all lmao :ladyhaha:

its impact is 100 times bigger than Formation :sharon: The production on Work is also better. Formation is all over the place and just messy.

It is also nominated for Song of the year, which rewards lyrics. Have you read the lyrics of Formation?

Also, it is said to be political and like a black power anthem but I just see it as a parody. The lyrics are cringy:

My daddy Alabama, Momma Louisiana
You mix that negro with that Creole make a Texas bama
I like my baby heir with baby hair and afros
I like my negro nose with Jackson Five nostrils
Earned all this money but they never take the country out me
I got a hot sauce in my bag, swag

EDIT:

That's just one reason out of a million others she is - at least a bit - overrated.

:hor:

As for Lemonade, the way she used Jay-Z's infidelity seems more like a way to get people's sympathy. Her music just doesn't speak to me anymore.

This. I felt like the infidelity thing was a really cheap way to get publicity. And then Rachel Roy, Rita Ora, and Rachael Ray () got mercilessly attacked on social media. Even Rachel Roy's children was attacked by Beyonce's messy ass fanbase and she didn't do anything. I doubt Jay even cheated on her and she did it for the publicity.

But I really admire how Beyonce explored her black roots and culture with this album. My favorite part of the film was watching her grandma's speech when she said "I was served lemons but I made lemonade." I think it was beautifully done and very relevant in the current sociopolitical circumstances and empowering for many people. I just do not connect to it as much, perhaps because I am white, so I don't have that strong connection to the album, just admiration for it.

Those lyrics are amazing... Read the subtext and they have such a deep meaning. They're both politically forward, and fit perfectly into the story of Lemonade.

Anyway. I love Rihanna but anyone who thinks Work is a better song than Formation is delusional.

I love the Sasha Fierce album though.

I love her and I love Lemonade but people kinda treat her as a divine flawless being and I think it's kinda too much :green:

This sums up how I feel. I love Beyoncé because I have grown up with her music and I think Lemonade is a great album, but her relentless fans and the media hype have me rolling my eyes more than I'd like.

I enjoyed her music much more when she was an underappreciated artist and I didn't have to hear every random upper-middle class white girl gush about how great Beyoncé is just because they think it makes them look enlightened and culturally educated.

If I'm gonna be honest this annoys me too. More because they're using one of my faves to make themselves look cool.

I don't hate Beyonce, I enjoy a lot of her music and I think she's an amazing performer. I'd love to see her live. I just don't think she's as amazing as she's made out to be in the media, especially in the past few years

Maybe I just don't "get it"...

Oh poor Beyonce, she is so unfortunate and people need to defend her honour.

Seriously? Beyonce is considered a Godess by most people i know, even those who don't remember a single song she has released after the likes of 'Single Ladies'.

And that is where the 'issue' is. Someone in here even played the race card - if anything Beyonce being black has helped her, and kudos to her for it as she became a great role model not just to black youth and women around the world but also in the eyes of people from other racial backgrounds.

She is the best live performer, best dancer and amazingly beautiful and a true icon.

However, her music to me takes a back seat to all the above. It's insane to say 'what does having 20 producers have to do with anything?"! It has everything to do with it! Beyonce has a great voice but she is no match for, let's say, Jennifer Hudson in terms of sheer soul and power and she is also no match to Gaga's either.

Gaga isn't worried about taking true risks or the possibility of her coming across as not perfect. All her live performances have been amazingly powerful, not all as perfectly executed as Beyonce, but that is the beauty of Gaga.

I grew up listening to Tina Turner, my first true diva icon :) As someone else in this forum has already mentioned, that woman is incredible. And she actually DID go through all the issues that Beyonce sings about in most of her albums - victim of domestic abuse, men using her and basically taking all the money for her hard work, being a woman of colour through times where that must have caused her a lot of pain and so on. Yet she lit up the stage with her grace, charm, energy and PASSION.

Beyonce sings about all that, but she grew up with a golden spoon in her mouth. She was a child superstar early on, thanks to her dad and Destiny's Child she became massive. All her solo albums i have enjoyed, some more than others but that is normal. But the amount of money that goes into her albums, her videos, her live shows - not to mention the additional perks and influence by being Mrs Carter - played a big role in all of her work. I remember watching the video to 'Pretty Hurts' and thinking 'Is she messing with us? Boohoo poor B, she is hot, beautiful, massively talented and here she is trying to convince us that it is a burden somehow? Or the fact that she is black harmed her career in any way?' Please...

At the end of the day - as i said repeatedly above - Beyonce is extremely talented, as a performer and as a dancer. She is probably the biggest perfectionist and show-woman since Madonna IMO. But her most recent albums don't convince me for their authenticity. She is privileged, massively rich, uses an army of producers, writers etc for every album, i don't know of a single person who 'hates' on Beyonce - in fact everyone admits she is flawless - but she is also a marketing tool.

As for the comments over her work being superior to Gaga i would laugh. Gaga has immense talent, and she is real. She proved that with Joanne, more than any other album of hers. Me and my partner keep listening to Joanne over and over. With Lemonade, we say the visuals first and said 'Wow this is fantastic', but didn't even felt like listening to the album again after the first 1-2 times. That doesn't mean its not great, but its not memorable or catchy enough and unless you properly invest time into it it won't appeal to those who like their pop music to be a more 'easy listening' experience.

That's why this is a Gaga forum, that's why i am here and not somewhere else.

First of all, "henny", it is obviously my opinion, there is no need to write (opinion) after everything. It is implied.

Second of all, of course I am biased, we all are, we are not news organizations. All individuals with opinions are biased by definition.

And finally, I disagree that it isn't groundbreaking. An album about that depicts race, sexuality, betrayal, forgiveness, and feminism so unapologetically; mixing it with styles like rock, country, rnb, with such an excellent production and mixing, plus great vocals melodies and harmonies without having to chritinase it is groundbreaking to me.

I'm happy you enjoy the album
