SychosSoChic 9,995
I mean I understand the concept that the burqa, and to an extent Islam, is not "Western" but this idea of "That has no place in western culture" is a slippery slope between genuine concern for security and straight up bigotry. Remember, the last time Western Europe went around saying what is and isn't acceptable they started crusades, ended one of the greatest civilizations man has ever known, and colonized/enslaved a continent that is still reeling over a century down the line. I understand the reasons for Merkel saying this, but I don't agree (anymore). But I do find it concerning how y'all are more than willing to force an entire demographic to give up their individualism and their culture, just to conform to your idea of what is "right". Edit: Don't agree with Merkel no more Life ain't Hollywood for any one of us.

How is wearing an execution device on your neck (cross) any different? The crucifix is a symbol of religious expression. The burqa is not a garment of religious expression, but a tool used to subjugate and control Muslim women.

If a woman who's not a Muslim or an Arab goes to an Arab country, nothing and nobody force her to dress any different from what she wants to. If she dresses in a way that's appropriate for that area, it's because she's showing respect and wants the people there to feel that she's not different from them. I bet zero. Yes millions of men want to tell women what to do with their bodies, you somehow think that justifies it? FreePalestine

Luc 4,776
5 minutes ago, Melech said: I personally not think that it is islamophobic to ban the burqa. Even a huge percent of muslim-experts don't support the burqa. A prominent example is Ahmad Mansour in Germany. She's taking a very high-profile approach with this burqa banning thing, while it's really just a very small problem. If she truly cared about social cohesion and integration she would've just passed the bill in parliament while paying no extra attention to it, while focusing on the real challenges for social cohesion and integration (such as poverty and lack of social welfare). She's blowing this small problem out of proportions and taking so many opportunities to tell this story about a non-issue, and the only possible explanation for this getting so much extra attention (from her) is that the idea of a burqa ban itself is rooted in xenophobia and islamophobia. 6 minutes ago, lego said: "Having eyes on" and raids are not new laws against far right and neo nazi extremism, which infringe on other people's rights. Just a few questions: - Is the burqa connected to the Quran? - What's the difference between nudity and a burqa for you? - Do you see this kind of measures as just pure evil or as necessary evil to keep the far right away from power? Do you understand why Merkel (probably) did it in the first place?
