She was called a "rock star" at the beginning while Michael Jackson was already called a "popstar". Madonna single-handedly laid the groundwork for Britney, Gaga... All the girls. I'm not uneducated because of an OPINION, that's just my generation I grew up in, Britney was THE Pop girl of my childhood, hold up your Madge Stan card for the world to see

CannaeDrive 3,412
OP: funny you bring The Beatles, I was trying recently to re-discover their discography but after a few listen I felt a bit indifferent to their music. So yeah, I kinda agree they are overrated but still legend tho. OTOH, I am still slayed by The Rolling Stones, Jimmy Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and Bob Dylan, all legends from the same period in time. One day Abbey Road clicked in a huge way. The more I read about the history of The Beatles and their place in musical history and their evolution from album to album, album a year, plus their singles , I got it. There's a reason musicians from all genres call them an influence and why books still sell about The Beatles. One day, they may click for you like they did for me as far as a lot of their later albums. Except for Ringo's song, I'm heavy into "Revolver" right now. But i find their success an exageration. They may have come up with a new sound but their vocals were pretty mediocre and quite frankly i dont like 75% of their hits 4 hours ago, DevilHeart said: About the OP : I like to think that the Beatles were the One Direction of their time. The young girls were CRAZY about them and that was about it. I wasn't there at that time though so I can't really judge Vocals are not everything And just because you don't like their hits doesn't mean they shouldn't be legends I'm not trying to drag or shade you, I'm just genuinely flabbergasted at the Beatles hate. Equating the Beatles -- musical INNOVATORS -- to the manufactured pop mess that is One Direction is an absolute crime. I think you're all forgetting just how far ahead of their time the Beatles were and how much they pioneered the modern music recording process (sampling, loops, backwards recordings, multi-track recording). The best example of this is probably "Tomorrow Never Knows." It was recorded in 1966 -- 50 years ago (!!) and it still sounds fresh. Compare this to what mainstream music sounded like that same year (this was like #3 on the 1966 year end chart) 5 hours ago, MarryTheKnight said: tbh Madonna she's just very weak vocally imo Madonna is an institution Without her the music world as you know it would not exist. Sure, she can't sing, but she's made up for it in plenty of other ways I could write paragraphs on why she's a legend but I can just direct you to this lengthy Wikipedia article dedicated solely to Madonna's cultural impact: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cultural_impact_of_Madonna When will your ratty ass faves??? (jk love you, but I just get worked up when people call Madonna overrated) ... As for Britney, Mariah, Beyonce, etc. I do think they're all somewhat overrated.
