It really is a safety move and the only fearmongering is coming from the thread's title pointing out Burqas alone for whatever reason... its the title of the article as well. Why are some women required to cover even their eyes and some just the back of their hair? It's matter of interpretation and only minority wears it. How did it evolve? Why are there such stark differences in what is required? What scripture dictates that women should be covered in this fashion? It was a genuine question, wanting information and history, not a judgement.

Be whoever you want to be, just not in bigger public enviroments. You totally miss the point here. The security issue is for most of the people in the Netherlands a big issue. People are scared because of the big immigration numbers and the terrorist attacks. The danger isn't in the attacks itself, but it's the reaction of the people to it. The Government is doing everything to ensure people are feeling safe, otherwise all these people will vote for Geert Wilders in March next year. If that happens we will have way bigger problems than this little restriction of wearing burqa's in public places. For example Geert Wilders imposed the idea a couple of years ago for a 'kopvoddentax', a taxation for wearing a hijab. It means literally something like a head rag tax. I know all restrictions on freedom are bad, but the security issue has a priority now. Even in a country as liberal as the Netherlands. If they're banning any face covering on the basis that it is a threat security and they ban the hijab, the Dutch parliament truly has no merit or knowledge on this issue. A hijab doesn't cover the face and doesn't pose a potential security threat that a burqa could potentially cause, as much as I hate to admit that because the burqa should be classified as a freedom of expression and religion. However, even though I may be clouded by my veil of American exceptionalism, they should not ban the hijab at all under the pretense that a hijab could be classified as a potential security threat. You can see someone's face clearly with a hijab, but whatever... ban what you must to help you sleep at night while you're infringing upon another's rights... No the Hijab is still allowed. It's only about the Niqab and Burqa Before there was love, there was silence

Times have changed I just saw a special on this, how Brexit and Trump are evidence of a growing movement that will continue to spread. I wouldn't have thought this trend would continue in parts of Europe. Do you really think the more conservative candidates have a chance to win in the more liberal areas of Europe?
