"AMSTERDAM, Nov 29 (Reuters) - The Dutch Parliament’s lower house voted on Tuesday to ban the wearing of face-covering clothes - such as burqas and niqabs - in some public places, making the Netherlands the latest European country to restrict garments worn by some Muslim women.

The legislation, which still needs to be passed by the senate, bans the veils in settings where identifying the wearer is considered essential, such as in government buildings, on public transport, at schools and in hospitals."

This is good. Burqa shouldn't be in public places due to identity reasons

not just burqas

"The rule – which will outlaw all face coverings including ski-masks and helmets and will not apply to public streets – was approved by 132 in the 150-seat house."

I support banning all face covers that aren't for medical reasons. I don't agree with singling out the burqa and variants of it but I don't think the Netherlands are doing that from the post above.

I don't like the idea of entire faces being covered, especially in public, but if it's your religious view, you should be free to wear what you want.

Horrible and discriminatory

You need to look at the security point of view though. It doesn't matter if it is a burqa or a clown masked. If you can't see the face or identify you can basically do what ever you want. You could stab a person and security cameras wouldn't be able to identify you because your face is not seen.

I will never understand this idea that image (including clothing) has anything to do with what people actually do. Do you think a terrorist will only blow herself up if she uses a burqa? Or a doctor can only perform surgery if he's not tattooed? Or a bank employee can only do his job if he shaves and wears a suit and tie? Or a man can only be masculine if he doesn't wear a dress?

It's ridiculous! How about using those resources to actually control the security of the country instead of telling people what to wear or do with their bodies?

A tattooed doctor, an unshaved bank employee or a dress wearing men all don't pose possible threats.

A person who hides their face does.

they just did, by banning face masks in public, which'll made identification much easier :giggle:
