I know, I said all that didn't I? You purposefully cut out the part of what I wrote when I condemned him in order to argue with a point I'm not making  

"He shouldn't have walked off stage after 3 songs, that's not cool. People spent a lot of money on tickets, they worked hard and spent their hard earned money on this concert. They deserve a full show or they should get their money back."

It's not okay for him to walk out after three songs, he is responsible for his own actions, it's okay to criticise him when he crosses the line.

My only point was:
"duh, **** like that is going to happen. What makes him a great artist doesn't translate into what makes him a good person. If you want a transgressive, opinionated, braggadocious, unsafe artist - don't be surprised when that artist is also transgressive, opinionated and unsafe outside of their work."

You have to be prepared for that with Kanye. There are going to be times when he rants about something stupid (Like how he would have voted Trump and how POC should stop complaining about racism) and your eyes are going to be looking at your brain. There are going to be times when he gets on stage and interrupts an award show to tell someone they don't deserve the award that have won and your hand will be to your face. It doesn't excuse those actions, but if you want an unsafe, controversial, opinionated transgressive artist you have to be willing to take those personality flaws with it.

I don't think Kanye could be the artist he is without his personality flaws. He is an opinionated person who says whatever is on his mind - when it comes to creating that lack of inhibition is great, it's what contributes to him being such a great musician, but on a personal level it can lead to him saying some BS that angers people. He has little to no respect for social conventions - that's fantastic in his work where he can push boundaries and make something truly transgressive - it's less great in real life when he goes on these giant rants. He is an ego maniac who is a little manic, when he is working that's great it means he has complete confidence and faith in his work, there is nothing holding him back and he has the courage to experiment and demand exactly what he wants - that's less great in real life when he decides he can just walk off stage after 3 songs.

Errr.... Not in the same way. I wouldn't call Gaga transgressive or unsafe in the same way I would call Kanye transgressive and unsafe. They are completely different artist - when it comes down to it though, it's Kanye's personality traits that make him the genius he is artistically. He is the classic enfant terriblé. 


Of course he shouldn't have been an asshole and walked off stage - There's just no point in being surprised. We all want an unsafe, unpredictable, opinionated artist - sometimes that's going to blow up in your face. Like I've said, he shouldn't off stage that's a **** move.
