People get sued here in The Netherlands when they say something like that about a politician.

I am sorry, but such comparisons are totally irrational and out of proportions. Again, I am not an American, but your democratic system is sick and you can't blame the opposite party for it.

And, excuses me, but seein' all those (stupid) political fights here on GagaDaily, makes me feel really uncomfortable and not welcome anymore.

'Cause there isn't any form of debate here, it's just all about personal attacks and weak arguments. But, that's something characteristic for the American Elections, I guess. It has literally nothing to do with politics, nothing!

You're blaming and bullying each other of and for everything. Make GagaDaily nice again, please. And a realy, warm-hearted community.

Amen. :diane:

Say it again!

OT: You're really no better than him. Using fear instead of actual logic to prove your case. Taking similar minor characteristics of one of our candidates and Hitler is crazy. Please you guys, stop trying to use fear to support you and use actual logic.

If Trump really had a hold on the American public and was intelligent (not even trying to insult him, it's just the truth. Trumps vocabulary is very poor) then I could get behind this.

As it stands now trump lost the popular vote for a reason and he isn't motivated or smart enough to actually achieve or even want to achieve the things he said. And his rheteroic isn't nearly as bad as Hitlers (trump supporters have rhetoric that bad though).

To be honest, I don't know anything about politics, but this did immediately remind me of Trump and his supporters. People think he's just trolling, but I'm afraid he's not kidding about his unequal and questionable views. While it might seem dangerous to have him as a president, I still think that he's not able to rebuild a society that discriminates POC, women and the LGBTQ. Hello, it's 2016!

As far LGBT people, this what he has said he will do. And congress will let him.

Honestly, Americans sound so dramatic, try and go through a militar dictatorship like the one we had in the 70's ( Operation Condor), then talk

Yes, Trump is obviously not Hitler and I don't think he poses a threat like Hitler. It is a different time and a different context.

but

I think what this article does show is that it's important to take Trump's racist, islamophobic, divisive rhetoric seriously.

He has said he would consider warrantless searches of Muslims and increased surveillance of mosques. Asked whether this might mean registering Muslims in a database or giving them a form of special identification that noted their religion, he would not rule it out. He floated the idea of banning all muslims from entering the country.

When he says things like " "Islam hates us" we should take it seriously. When he characterises mexican immigrants as rapists, criminals, killers and drug dealers (although he of course assumes that some are good people) we should pay attention. When he attracts the passionate support of the KKK and neo-nazi groups we should pay attention.

Hateful, racist rhetoric is not something we should shrug off. It's not something we should overlook. It's something we should take very seriously.

Yes and thats the thing. Hitler =/= Trump.

There are and were many racist dictators (i mean what dictator werent racist lol) before. Why not comparing Trump with Mussolini for example?

I highly doubt Trump turns into systematic murderer and I believe that many people calling Trump the new Hitler, don't know much about Hitler and his action. Trump is clearly stupid and lacks behind rhetorically. And I also doubt that Trump will call to eradicate whole cities killing 45.000 persons a day.

Though one thing I wonder is with the Islam thing. What if a Muslims becomes atheist, is she or he still a Muslim in Trump eyes? Or does Trump see Muslims as an ethnicity which isn't one?

Why can't you understand that NO ONE is saying Trump will be the next Hitler or whatever!

All I'm saying is he is using SIMILAR methods that Hilter used to get elected long before he started slaughtering people. The point of this is to make Trump supporters and people who think he is not dangerous see the similarities he has with someone who they clearly see as dangerous. This is not meant to belittle the struggle of the Jewish people or anything like that at all.

Mte, even that mentioning of my name in the OP. Like seriously :smh:

On-topic: you can say what you want but Trump is no way like Hitler and USA is no way like Germany in in the 1930's.

Isn't it sad that we need to compare horrible persons though? Like can't we just agree that Hitler was a monster. And Trump right now is a monster as well. Comparisons between to different persons in two different country in two different time zones can't and won't work. We need to see them as individuals and call them out individually. Comparisons are not needed at all.

Actually I think comparing the past and the present is kind of the point why people study history

Let me also remind everyone that one of Hitler's aims was to "make Germany great again" after the humiliation the country underwent with the outcome of WWI.

What's terrifying is that half the American population would want someone like this as their leader today, in 2016. We really do never learn. But listening to Trump's early speeches as president-elect, I'm hopeful he was indeed just talking the talk during his campaign. His family and him just look totally clueless right now, and he's already backpedaling on most of his promises, proving he had indeed no idea how to achieve those in the first place, so... The best we can hope is for nothing to happen during the next 4 years.

Of course, but isn't learning from our mistakes one of the points of studying our history? Times are cyclic, and I'm happy we can draw comparisons to hopefully warn people and make them realize what could happen. It's even more terrifying that half the Americans would want Trump as president, perfectly knowing how this could go wrong.
