Why is “Hey Girl" so underrated?

It's a bit different from the other songs from the album but I LOVE it, the instrumental kills me :golfclap:

People dislike it because:

-They expected a bigger song from them, either an upbeat one or a haunting ballad.

-They don't like the Elton John beat and the weird synth.

-They don't like the repetitive Hey Girl and melody.

-It's not their taste.

But hey, it is not enough to say it is the worst song in Joanne if it is not your taste :awkney:

Hey Girl is an album highlight and it sounds risky and new to the modern music era, and it is one of the most Grammy-worthy songs in Joanne.

I love Florence, and Hey Girl is one of my favorite songs off of Joanne.

But I can't help but think she missed an opportunity by not having someone like Katy or Madonna on the song. I don't like Katy or Madonna, but it would have been a more impact gesture of women standing together and not needing to "one up each other" had she collaborated with someone who she was actually perceived to be in competition with.

Having either Madonna or Katy would have completely changed the song in terms of atmosphere imo. The way the two voices mix up in this ethereal aura I don't think it could've been achieved with any other singer besides Florence. Let's not change what's already perfect.

I totally agree with you.

The idea of Madonna or Katy on a Gaga album doesn't interest me but Florence is amazing!

With that said I hate to say it but Hey Girl is my least favorite track on the record. I definitely like it more and more each time I listen to it.

I do wish they had done something a bit more dark  and dramatic. Oh well. Still a good song.

One thing I could change about it that it could of had more hamonizing since there was only a small part where they sang together.

I don't like it because I feel like it's really repetitive. They say 'Hey Girl' way too many times imo, I get it's the name of the song and it's them 'having a conversation' but when I'm casually listening to it it just gets boring. I haven't really connected with the song either and even if it is a song just about two girls uplifting each other I feel like it could have been done a lot better lyrically. I think my expectations were too high for it to be so simple.

Spoiler

But Hey Girl, don't come for me because I still bop to it and haven't deleted it from my iTunes which I'm shocked people actually do with Gaga songs -insert ooooh's-

I think, from what little I've seen on this site, the ones who dislike it are into upbeat pop music. My opinion is obviously quite small with my sample size, but you can't tell me it's not a well made song, and a fantastic duet between two great musicians with a great message. I hope regardless of what the GP considers important that Gaga gives it performances with Florence, and/or a music video, its truly worth it. I admit as a feminist when I first heard what some of the lyrics were I thought it was going to be cheesy, but they made it sound so beautiful and like an electronic lullaby for women and all of society. The bridge is also possibly the greatest Gaga has ever written/sung, and the production is top notch. I hope that the world gets more exposure in order to hear how beautiful it is.
