WASHINGTON (AP) — Melania Trump was paid for 10 modeling jobs in the United States worth $20,056 that occurred in the seven weeks before she had legal permission to work in the country, according to detailed accounting ledgers, contracts and related documents from 20 years ago provided to The Associated Press.

The details of Mrs. Trump's early paid modeling work in the U.S. emerged in the final days of a bitter presidential campaign in which her husband, Donald Trump, has taken a hard line on immigration laws and those who violate them. Trump has proposed broader use of the government's E-verify system allowing employers to check whether job applicants are authorized to work. He has noted that federal law prohibits illegally paying immigrants.

The documents obtained by the AP show she was paid for 10 modeling assignments between Sept. 10 and Oct. 15, during a time when her visa allowed her generally to be in the U.S. and look for work but not perform paid work in the country. The documents examined by the AP indicate that the modeling assignments would have been outside the bounds of her visa.

You know I don't remember much. The only thing I remember from 2012 is Mitt Romney caught on tape at a fundraiser saying that 47% of Americans are lazy/ don't pay taxes, or something of that effect.

I've been able to vote in 3 elections now, this being the third (showing my old age) and it was never this bad. Everyone seems to be fixated on investigating everything under a microscope, bashing the other side and magnifying it 100x. Sure there's typical mudslinging to be expected but this is on a whole other level. 

As far as this goes, this won't bring her any repercussions probably bc it happened a while ago and she's probably lawyered up to the max but it kind of makes her husbands rhetoric of "send those illegals home they don't have the right to work here" (air quotes of course not verbatim) invalid and hypocritical. According to the law anyway

Don't care for Trump at all but honestly, who cares? This is a non-story, and the desperation is real. We can't protect immigrants and chastise them at the same time, that makes us look like hypocrites. Yes obviously it's a story because of her husbands views, but it doesn't matter. It's like Republicans bringing up Bill's past when he's not the one running. Trump himself has plenty of source material, we don't need to reach.

You're right to say it probably shouldn't matter. The chance of this actually affecting the race is like 0%. BUT it is interesting due to Trump's beliefs with immigration.

I think more focus should be put into the new story of the FBI working with the Trump Campaign.
