I don't know if she intended this, but it helps clarify the message of the song. "Born This Way" is not literally about the condition in which you were born (otherwise the "horns" she wore that era would be a contradiction), but the point is you were born with limitless capacity: you can be whoever you want to be, free from societal standards.

She has said on numerous occasions that Rick embodies this idea but in a striking, artistic way.
