We all know that Gaga goes super into character for each of her albums. During her eras, her personality and values were always wierd and different; this is extremely prominent in ARTPOP, where she talks about all these art/pop/warhol philosophies and embodying art, and you can see this in her lyrics and how she acts during interviews. Each "personality" compliments her music and the album overall... so do you think Gaga is doing this with Joanne?

Gaga says wants to create stripped back music and she is "free from the music industry"... but maybe this is one of her new "philosophies" to promote a new style and era? Because I think its weird how Gaga is suddenly a country star and cowgirl... similarly during ARTPOP, gaga went a completely new direction musically, visually and mentally. So is this Joanne era simply a phase, and gaga will once again reinvent herself and become a pop artist after this era? Or is Joanne truly the end of "the beginning" of her career?

edit : a better way to phrase this is, I know Joanne is a transformation, but is this her last one (AKA she's gonna focus on music from now on)? or will she keep reinventing herself?

i don't think it's an "act." i don't think anything she does is an act. i think it is one aspect of her just like everything else has been. she is just expressing her joanne side right now.

i mean, I think she said that shes done with the costumes and crazy stuff, that's what got her famous but now she wants us to focus on her music, so I feel like not all of those outfits were genuinely "her"

Yes absolutely, albeit maybe not to the same extent as some of her characters.

But certainly somewhat! One need look no further than the first dive bar, felt like she was putting on an act to me with that accent and performance.

She never said that she's done with the crazy stuff. She just said that right now she doesn't want the craziness to distract from her songwriting.

She also said that the more avant garde stuff will definitely come back at some point, because that's her "favorite thing".

"I'm every icon." Gaga is all about transformation. We are just witnessing a transformation that we didn't see coming. She's as Gaga as she's ever been.

I wouldn't call it an act, but I get what you mean and I guess that's always been true with her, even going from the C2C to the AHS era to now the Joanne era, she redefines her life 100% by what she's working on because she's really really invested.

That's what I love about Gaga: we get every time to discover a new part of her, and she never does it only 50%.

She's a freaking chameleon, following her evolution is the most exciting thing ever. I know sometimes we over interpret her capacity to predict her career, but i feel like even though she's genuine in what she's doing, she also has a plan set out on the long term because it always feels like everything makes sense on the long term..

I believe she creates the way she walks, talks, dresses, etc. if that's what you mean. Lady Gaga is multiple versions of a musician Stefani makes. Not to say she's inauthentic in any way though, as she truly becomes whoever she wants to be.

And of corse, 1-2 years from now she will be completely different.

SEXODUS

It is, on a certain level, but that's just about normal when it comes to superstars, especially as extravagant and inspired as LG. Some things are not said, some are emphasized, but if you're asking if she doesn't mean at all what she says or do either in public or musically speaking, that she sits at a table and decides how to impress the public, then no, I don't think anything by her is the kind of act that takes thought put into. Maybe some interviews she gave seemed "acted" but I have no doubt she always means what she does. Even if Joanne was an act, similarly to Jo Calderone, then she has every right to act it. As long as she delivers good music and does what she wants, I'm very okay with it all. And of course she'll reinvent herself. Avant-gardeGa will take the next train to us as soon as she's ready.

REALITY

I think she's just outlining a prominent piece of her life right now. This is just where she is in this particular moment in time.

I wouldn't call it an "act", but simply just a part that she wants to show people. She's completely different each and every era, it's one reason why I love her so much. You never really know what you're going to get, and with Joanne, we're certainly seeing a different side of her. Like she's said, Joanne's sort of like "Lady Gaga, if you erase all the fame".

The Fame Joanne

Why do you say Gaga is a country star? Joanne  may have some country influences but it's still a pop album

It is and yet it's not at all. She refuges a bit in some theatrics to cope with the public and she continues to have fantasies and fetish but it's mostly her. I don't think she can appear out in public without some cover.

It's clearly not a country album, but Gaga has the tendency of taking the main influence (outside of pop) as the criteria for the aesthetic of the era, so she's shaping herself to be a "country star" this era
