What about DIC as a single?

Too risky. It would have been a smash during TF/M, but now a days...let's keep her brand new image clean...she has the GP back after 5 long years, it's not the right moment to release DIC :laughga:

The biggest problem with this song isn't it's context, it's the fact that it is not in the least bit subtle. Every other line is "touch myself". It's the simplest song on the album to understand, and to be honest, one of the most boring parts of the album. I don't get why everyone stans it so much.

If this was a massive hit in the 90s, then DIC could be a hit today.

Gaga is Gaga for being controversial and making statements in a fun way

and I love ha slaying the GP but I don't want ha to censor herself

Which is why it'd be perfect as a 3rd or 4th single or something. I agree it couldn't be her leadsingle because of it's content but it's perfect as a single at some point. Joanne enjoys a massive debut, she's promoting heavily and enjoying the fruits of her labor. Why not throw something fun in the mix some months from now with DIC? It would smash, I'm confused some people are so worried about prudes shooting down the song... Let's imagine it WOULD get banned on just one radiostation... Can you imagine the press coverage she'd get out of that? "LADY GAGA'S NEW SINGLE TOO SEXUAL - BANNED ON RADIO". Boom. Instant hype. People would search for the video immediately. It would be AMAZING. :hor:

I'm going to say it again, I disagree strong heartedly.

Gaga LOST the GP (and it wasn't 5 years by the way) because ARTPOP was a MESSY era that was too conceptual for the casual listener to connect with, not because she was sexually explicit. When she was sexually explicit in Poker Face, Love Game, Alejandro... People ate it up.

This is the woman who shot fire from her breasts and set a pimp on fire in one of the most watched music videos of all time. Since when are Little Monsters little prudes?

Controversy over sexuality is INSTANT hype. Not a career killer. Marketing 101.

It's my favorite song on Joanne but I feel like the lyrics are risky.

I don't know... different people = different opinions... I just don't feel comfortable having to explain it to my non-Gaga-fan friends :deadbanana:

See but that's the thing... It would create talk. AKA hype. And that's IF the lyrics become controversial...

Just quoting myself from earlier LOL :

It does not. That's like saying every R&B song sounds alike. Cheap Thrills is 90 BPM, DIC is 172 BPM. The only thing they share is a "tropical" vibe but DIC also has a latin influence (the ad-libs, the castanets, the guitar...) It doesn't share chords with Cheap Thrills either.

If anything it's similar here and there to La Camisa Negra by Juanes (listen closely.)

This!

Gaga needs to play the singles safe. I have really come to enjoy DIC. But it's still a song about masturbation, and Gaga songs that are directly about sex, Usually don't do well.

We need to keep in mind that she's only just now winning the broader audience back.

LoveGame, PokerFace....

They both did well :classy:

I really don't think DIC is 172 BPM :emma:

Some of y'all be crazy. sex SELLS, it does not bomb popcareers.

All of these songs were HITS and some are way "worse" (lyrically and in it's video)  and smashed heavily YEARS (some DECADES) ago...

And you can add basically any song by a male popstar about sex from the past 40 years to this list. The Weeknd and ever rapper every have had WAY more explicit songs and most of them went over well.

https://songbpm.com/lady-gaga/dancin-in-circles it's up-beat girl. That site literally counts the beats, it's always accurate, it generates the info directly from the song stats Spotify.

Okay but I'm assuming it's in 4/4? Yeah? Try conducting at 172 with a metronome and then conducting to the song and it's quite ridiculous.

It honestly feels like it should be half 172 as the beat... But it's been awhile since I've taken a music course so I could be wrong.

It just sounds like the phrases make more sense within a bpm of 86 or so.
