I want for masculine/effeminate gay men and women to be very popular and successful and proudly bring visibility to our causes. People like Joey 'cause he's charismatic and funny, not especifically 'cause he's gay, I believe. yes as I said Im 100% with you. We need more Masculine Gays in the Media. I think Brokeback Mountain was a huge step in mainstream movies and we need the same in TV #MasculineGaysMatter

imnotyourbabe10 6,101
And this is why I have steered my queer/androgynous self away from the allegedly inclusive, but ever increasingly divisive, LGBTQIA+ "community." EDIT: the binaries of man/woman and masculine/feminine are not real or biologically sound--they are deeply socialized/constructed by society. But if we have to live in these terms (regardless of sexuality), I'd preach for a move towards "androgyny" (a synthesis of the male/female binary). This is why I've been a huge fan of Gaga since, you guessed it, Alejandro.

But if they wanted to represent everybody, they could have easily included some gay sport jocks in the ad. Not that it would have been hard, given it's about the Superbowl ... 3 hours ago, KleinGa said: not as much as this. This sort of exposure has caused people to immediately associate gay people with feminine characteristics. 30 minutes ago, Beto said: I would like for everyone to be represented. The point I made was: I'm not being represented in the mainstream media and I feel it. There are no masculine gay guys on TV in my country because that's just not interesting for the public. The gay characters have to be exactly the stereotype pushed to the extreme, in order to be ridiculed. It's infuriating. Why did you quote me after all? I just hope one day the sexuality of the character is not what defines him, instead just a part of who he is that is not given much relevance (like I think it should be). Like a hypothetical gay superhero. He's gay, sure, but he's a f*cking superhero and that's what people should focus on. I quoted you because I wanted to discuss this with you. Chill. It doesn't have to be a fight.I'm just curious. Speaking of curious, I'm curious to know where you guys are from. In America there are an array of gay characters from all across the spectrum. from feminine to masculine which i love.

Grew up with zero representavity of any sort. The only representation of LGBT in the media I saw growing up were effeminate gay men, masculine lesbians and transgender people being 'the joke' in whatever scenario they're at. Really infuriating. On a curious note: given how gay men were 'the joke' - there just to either be made fun of or make fun of themselves depreciatively - on TV shows, they were usually extremely effeminate and ugly looking (not the actors particularly but on purpose, using makeup and all that stuff). So I still have this thing in my head where it doesn't add up gay man being great looking and/or very masculine. For example, there's this dude on twitter who's openly gay and also extremely great looking. It never really hits me that he's gay when I look at him because it doesn't add up in my mind. Consequently, I expect every great looking man to be straight. That's how stereotypes and the media really f*cks up your brain. I really hope you're kidding, I've seen many ugly straight guy .Looks doesn't rely on your sexual orientation lol😐

I've met many gay men and not one has genuinely been a sports fan. that in itself is kind of a stereotype don't u think? self hating gays who try so hard to be straight and enjoy "masculine" things? "gay sport jocks" is the equivalent of 'white straight acting gay ****boys" and honestly we don't need pop culture thinking that that is us. if the ad where to use a bunch of over the top attractive colton haynes type boy next door straight acting jock assholes, it would be way too easy of an image for the hetero-normative culture to accept, and in the end we'd get nowhere in terms of REAL acceptance. all I'm getting at is, the mis representation isn't on behalf of "masc" gay men. gay media already does enough of that, trying to wash away the flouncyness and wash away any people of color from representing the lgbt community. if the gay stereotype they where portraying was more in line with typical masculine things, and not a flamboyant stereotype, you wouldn't be complaining. just saying...
