I've seen a lot of threads saying that Gaga should have promoted Perfect Illusion, but in fact promotion/performance doesn't mean a thing in 2016 when you compare her to some of the biggest pop stars in the world. For example Britney Spears - Make Me Ooh (Lead Single)

Performances.

1. VMAs (6 million audition)

2. iHeart Radio Festival

3. Ellen Show

4. Jonathan Ross Performance

5. Today Show

6. Las Vegas Show.

CURRENT VIEWS ON VEVO -

NOTE - Perfect Illusion about to outview Make Me Ooh & Hold Up (which was performed also at the VMAs on VEVO

MAKE ME OOH - Audio on VEVO

PERFECT ILLUSION - NO PROMOTION / PERFORMANCES.

MUSIC VIDEO - 39,526,220 views

PERFECT ILLUSION - AUDIO. - 21,748,981 views

The only prisons that exist are ones we put each other in..

Maybe this is what Britney's song could do with all the promo? And maybe Gaga's song could've done a lot better and become a smash hit if she promoted it. I don't see anything wrong with promo. It definitely matters.

It does, actually. Thanks to SNL, A-YO and MR are Top20 on iTunes and Joanne is overperforming

Promotion influences sales figures and people's perception of a product. It actually can make all the difference if it's done correctly.

This doesn't make sense.

We're not in 2010 anymore. Not many people apart from Gaga fans know what she is doing as opposed to when everyone use to track her every move. Without promo, this era will be a commercial failure...

Promotion is a fundamental element of how a celebrity markets their image and music.

In my messy era.

Promo matters for the album and not for the singles..

What's the point of working so hard to release an album when most of the people in the world doesn't know many songs in it and knows only the singles?

by promoting singles you're basicially promoting the album cause that's the core purpose of the singles

Maybe before the youtube and streaming era..

PI is the perfect example, it was not a smash hit, she performed only the promo singles, no videos and no radio and look how well the album is doing..

Singles became just another reason to release a new video for the fans and a views achievement..

It didn't work for Britney bc people knew what they could expect (robotic movement and 0 vocals), while with Gaga you can't exactly guess what she's going to do. So, promo in Gaga's case means a lot, if the GP does like the performance they'll buy/stream. :hor:

Now since it's about to  outview Hold up and make me. It shows that we if there was promo  PI could've probably been already certified by now so promo does count....:whitney:
