I also thought it'd be a hit and Dark Horse, while doing extremely good, seemed like just another future hit for Katy. They wanted the holidays sales. When Unconditionally 'flopped', they knew that Unconditionally did have some momentum and that they could aim for a January-February peak for Dark Horse together with the Super Bowl. Perfect planning. I bet Unconditionally actually had a positive effect on album sales, as it used Roar's momentum to make a non-hit a hit for an album that only had two smashes anyways.
