I think it's because this new album is a big jump from her previous work. A lot of (clueless) people have this idea that Gaga is just another Britney Spears (no offence to Britney fans). I think that they think this new style is not "Gaga" because it's so different.

They expected another Poker face. But Gaga has delivered some real music and they haven't heard any of that for a long time. I don't think they realise that they have been slayed or scalped because they don't want to admit that Gaga is a musical genius over the likes of Beyonce who is massively overrated in my opinion.

But as I see meltdowns over the reviews it makes me laugh really. Because it shows that the only opinions that matter are the ones of the fans who understand who Gaga is an artist and musician, and are enjoying listening to Joanne and have tons of nice things to say about it.

The lack of authenticity of it? Because she want from Dance/Electro/Pop to this. That's probably it.

Could you explain to me how a self-penned album with real instruments, unprocessed vocals, and blatantly personal lyrics qualifies as inauthentic?

This isn't my view btw. So don't come for me. Some people believe after her doing dance pop for all this time that this "country album" is inauthentic.

To me its classic rock and where I wanted her to head.

Because critics are still evaluating Gaga herself and her past work, when all they should be evaluating is the album and the music itself.

Do you hear that? It's poison.

Lona Delery

:duck: it certainly isnt a bad album, but yeha, it's not her best. It's better than The Fame, but every other album by her has been better

The one thing this era was supposed to have was critical success. Even if it wo no awards, was not commercially successful...It was supposed to be critically acclaimed. I just don't understand why it's not? Like seriously someone explain to me why Gaga's best album is being dragged by critics? There has been one good review, 2 mixed, and one negative. Critics are bull **** people and I've come to this conclusion!

Gaga is a polarizing figure, and this will be reflected in reviews.   Fans shouldn't assume critics will get it any more than many fans do.  Even though Gaga is producing music much closer to her pre-Gaga days, many fans, and many Critics, somehow consider it "in-authentic".   In fact if this was a male artist I very much doubt they would be saying the same thing.   It's no lie that people put female pop stars in various boxes that they aren't supposed to stray out of once they've been put in one.  I got back into "pop" for a while because of Gaga, but now I'm  constantly reminded by fans and the industry why It's a mess of commercial crap and petty superficiality.

Gaga would do well to leave it altogether.  Forget top 40 and just become an AC artist.

Not my words. Words of some other stans here. I was putting a view across. Not mine though. I love the album.

Stop seeking other people's approval.

This, you people overrate critics, theyre just people with their own tastes, and tbh someone who decides what album to buy based on reviews or a mc score has huge individuality problems

Born Brave

Celebuzz called it the best album she's ever released. Million Reasons and A-YO have been critically acclaimed.

Just calm down. The ratings are kind of skewed right now because of that d-bag at the NYT.

I feel like a lot of Gaga fans around here assumed that the country/folkier influence would automatically equal prestige, or that, because this is a more deliberately serious album with autobiographical or "important" ballads, that the critics would fall all over themselves to praise Gaga, the Serious Artist.

But that was never going to happen. They're just judging the songs based on their own taste and measuring the music against what they believe are its intentions. And that's what you all should be doing, too.

Have faith in your own artistic judgments.
