giskardsb 12,565
Most pop is escapist entertainment. It's designed to basically take you out of your everyday lives and give you a few minutes of fun. Pop is generally not designed for long term impact, but short term impact. It's entertainment with flash, big shows, dance, visuals, and the musical content is subservient to those roles. Obviously this is a generalization and some great music does come out of the pop realm, but in general that is what it is, and always has been; a music business controlled by corporations designed for short term entertainment. to me this seems to be what a lot of fans are missing in Gaga's music. Her early work, while still having a certain level of depth beyond most pop, was big, brash, flashy, and clearly designed for big shows and performances. However, there is no doubt that Gaga's underlying musical talent was subservient to all this and often didn't show at the surface level in her singles or performances. You had to go looking deeper to find it. Gaga, at least for Joanne, seems to have shifted more towards music with meaning designed to connect with people at a deeper level, rather than just going for the entertainment factor. In this way she aligns much more with the musicians and vocalists that are outside of pop, the genre artists, the independents, the singer songwriters. These people don't want their messages or their music obscured by visuals and flash. They want to connect musically. To me this is the fundamental breakpoint in the fanbase. The people crying for RedOne and #1 hits miss Gaga, the big, flashy, popular entertainer and pop culture personality. That is the Gaga that they "fell in love with." Current Gaga, post-ARTPOP, has gotten disillusioned with that aspect of the pop industry and is looking for a deeper connection to fans and to music, beyond the surface level of bright visuals and flashy choreo. She wants people to know her, as a songwriter and musician foremost, without the other stuff getting in the way, which it always does. Pop fans need to understand her motivations. You may not like her motivations, you may prefer Gaga the pop cultural phenom over Gaga, the introspective and quieter artist. However, if you aren't willing at least to put yourself in her place, to give yourself over to listening to her music and understanding it at a different level, then you are going to be miserable this entire era and might as well just go listen to someone else and maybe someday Gaga will decide that she wants to be the big entertainer again. People change. I quit "stanning" for Shakira when she moved to modern pop instead of being the Columbian Singer/Songwriter I fell in love with. her choice, it's ok and I still listen to her early catalog. On the other hand, Pink just gets better and better since she decided to embrace her inner rockstar instead of being the R&B girl her label wanted at first. Musicians need to find their own place. Gaga is still looking for hers, and given the breadth of her musical taste she may just end up exploring all the time, looking for that balance between visual performance art and serious musicianship. Thats cool too, in fact it's very cool, if you are fan of music. However, if a primary factor in why you are a Gaga fan is that big pop entertainment factor, then it's quite possible you may never see quite that pop cultural phenomenon again. Mourn it if you must, but at some point some of you are going to have to come to terms with it and deal with it in a rational way instead of the hysteria that has been invading this fanbase and making it difficult for many members here to simply enjoy where Gaga is now with her life. Djinngo 182
There's a song about masturbation on Joanne. Stop with this "she's a real artist now" bs. She's still Lady Gaga and always has been about the music even in her The Fame days.

Fiona Apple 13,006
I don't know I am starting to feel like Gaga has no real personality or style. She just finds a style that she likes (probably inspired from other artists usually which is not a bad thing) and she does that.. And I don't think that this is a good thing. It's different being able to being able to experiment (Madonna) than changing completely yourself & music & style in every era (Gaga)
