Are you a Fan of Gaga the Pop Superstar or Gaga the Vocalist / Performer

I think the fundamental issue that Little Monsters are going to have to grapple with as we approach the release of Joanne is a schism between:

Gaga - the Pop Music Superstar vs. Gaga - the Vocalist / Performer / Artist

Personally, unlike the vast majority of Monsters, I actually don't like Gaga because of her music on any of her albums. (Shocking, I know!) (Especially The Fame, my least favorite of her albums.) I like Gaga because she is a powerhouse performer, an insanely talented / dedicated Vocalist always working on improving and refining her pipes...

I could care less about the charts. Or the fame. Or being a mega superstar. Or what kind of clothes she's wearing.

I'm blown away by the fearlessness, the endless transformational process she's undergone over the last 7 years, the relentless pushing of her own envelope, the reaching further and further into her own soul to find nuggets of gold, the breaking down of the celebrity box she's put herself into... And more than anything, it really just boils down to her voice.

I think Gaga wanted to be known as Gaga the Vocalist, not Gaga the meat-dress-wearing-popstar... And she is ceaselessly transforming and reaching deeper.

Honestly, I'm more excited now than I was before about the new album!!!! I think it's going to OBLITERATE Adele at the Grammy's.

I feel like if people saw Gaga as just the "pop star" then that was their own fault though, because sooo many times she's shown that she's an amazing vocalist - I also don't think they're mutually exclusive  I don't think she has a point to prove to anyone about her being a real artist or a real vocalist or any of that stuff. I fell in love with Gaga because of her performances. The art and the theatrics kept me visually pleased while the voice did its beautiful work on my ear drums :flutter:

edit: To answer the question (sorry I got carried away when I first posted :flop: ), I enjoy both :nick: Depends how it's done and loads of other factors, it's by no means a black or white situation :laughga:

Both. Being a good vocalist isn't anything groundbreaking. There were dozens of stellar vocalists b4 Gaga and there will be many after her. A good artists can do both, which Gaga used to be able to do. You guys are talking as if Gaga was a terrible vocalist when she used to rule the pop world. :toofunny:I don't understand why you guys are settling for anything less than both. :diane:

Idk i think a lot of fans are going to lie and say the new gaga.

Why would anyone lie? It's just the Internet not a test :laughga:

Besides, the people who don't like the country/rock/folk vibe are pretty damn vocal about it already. People really don't need that much encouragement to voice their opinion lol

I've liked her previous efforts musically, I didn't mind the soulless electropop :giggle:

But I became a stan because I could see she was an incredible performer and very educated in theater and music. It was her VMA performance, the opening to the Fame Ball and even her theatrical performances with just her at the piano:

I could see she was different from other pop acts out there.

But even then it was about me liking the music and finding her exciting as a performer. The awards and cultural domination was fun and exciting, but it's not the reason I'm here. No shade, and it's cool if you like them it's just an example, but artists like Katy Perry or Taylor Swift have had pretty dominating eras and have been all over the charts but they don't excite me as performers or musicians.

I'm probably more excited for Joanne then I have been for any other album. I happen to love the direction she is going musically (especially Sinners Prayer and Million Reasons) so I'm still a fan of her music. It's genuinely so refreshing to hear this side of her, I only wish it came sooner.

Stuff the charts and stuff the fame.... However the BTW era was magical I was here for it great album, and TFM was a good era, so was ARTPOP.

The magick feels faded at present and that's the truth

I feel the reason why I am a fan of Gaga today and why I respect her so much is because of how "real" she is. She could have made a lot of money from another red one pop album however she decided to go her own direction. She had given up many things that had made her money such as her perfume business and beyond. One thing that I admire and even my entire family admires about her is that she has f*cking talent! She never lip syncs and never autotunes her music to make it sound better. Most importantly I respect her for going her own direction, she stuck up for herself and now she is almost free to do whatever she wants. I honestly dont miss the old Gaga as much as I use to, because I know from hearing "Perfect Illusion" and now "A Million Reasons" that she doesn't need to be a unique pop star anymore.
