jojuun 4,159
Please don't tell me I'm the only one that feels like the breakdown in Sinner's Prayer reminds them of the breakdown of Fade by Kanye... I instantly flashed to Fade when she sang "good as... gold" and the break happened. And yes, I know Fade lifts Fingers Inc's Mystery Of Love (which is what I also hear in Sinner's Prayer) and Hardrive's Deep Inside but Fade is out right now and it's a huge hit in the clubs and it's video is already infamous because of Teyana's fabulous body... So what's up with that? I'm down for a mash up, but I'm sure some blogs are gonna report on this. RaRaRamen 1,358
I'ma let you finish, but Sinner's Prayer is one of the best songs of all time I need a winter candy apple and an iced gingerbread candle, both three-wick, or I'm boycotting.
BlaqJezus 1,027
No they aren't...because Fade's breakdown and beat are samples of much older music, and we have no clue what Sinner's Prayer sounds like in actuality. Get a life please, or better yet just enjoy the music.

I know and the Sinners Prayer's break has a little other riff in the bassline, almost like a guitar/bass ad-lib, but in it's structure, it's very similar I feel. I wish I could sing it to you live, lol. My best description would be that I hear in both songs "tumdumdum tumdumdum tumdudumdum"... LOL Vague description, but I hear it. I love it, no shade, but I hear it.

Why would you post that? Because I'm respectfully posting a thread, asking a question in the correct category of this FANBOARD about something I, a fan, find? Reported. I'm not hating, it just really made me think of Fade instantly. They are both baseline-breakdowns, which hasn't really occurred in Top 40 music for the longest time. KingRedd 3,139
Can we not already start comparing the songs to others. It'll just be a reason for other fan bases to start the "Gaga copied" theme. May I Read You? 😎

Poker Face does lift from Boney M's Ma Baker, Alejandro is heavily influenced by Ace of Base, Born This Way features heavy nods to Express Yourself or as Gaga called it "the same chord progression" and ARTPOP is literally built around samples from the DJ's she was working with at the time. There's a small part in PI where she sings "It was a perfect illusioooooon" which reminds people of Madonna's Papa Don't Preach Chorus. It made for this amazing mash-up on YouTube below and despite the typical Madonna/Gaga fan war going on in the comment section, nobody really cared. No MAJOR fandrama went down on the boards and no major news outlet picked up on it. I didn't say she borrowed or sampled Fade, I said it reminded me of it, as in they are both deep basslines. They haven't been used in Top 40 songs as the single sound during an instrumental break for the longest time, which is why it's funny to me both are out right now on major platforms by two major artists. Why can't we never DISCUSS things on here? Everything has to be a quick one sentence reaction or a shady opinion. It's SIMILAR. Deaf people can hear it. So we're going to keep this under wraps before an ATRL member picks up on it? Who cares?

So we're going to keep this under wraps before an ATRL member picks up on it? Who cares? *Gathering Commence* Gaga has been tainted in the past because of "plagiarism" claims. Having a chord, small melody, or hum be similar to another artist is not copying. It takes away from musicians the freedom to create what they feel and want. People throw these claims out to belittle her creativity, so yes, when I come to her fansite and see her own fans, within minutes, compare her songs to others in attempt to point out plagiarism it is irritating. I, however, never once told anyone to not have an opinion and telling me to not have an opinion on something you posted is a little hypocritical. Fans like me want to enjoy these moments with other fans and take it all in and it gets ruined with threads like these. I know you are not trying to come for her, but its sad to see her own fans jump on the " lets see what song she copied now" bandwagon. Take a minute to soak up the event and enjoy the songs before we pick apart her songs. May I Read You? 😎

So we're going to keep this under wraps before an ATRL member picks up on it? Who cares? I honestly don't mind, you may report whatever you like, but it is clear you are just trying to start drama over similarities in song, rather than just "sharing an opinion" or whatever GGD members call it, but you contradict yourself right here. Literally pointing something out, saying that someone else is going to point it out because it is so obvious, and then go on to say who cares if someone else picks it up...which then defeats the purpose of the thread otherwise. There are similarities in lots of songs, but Gaga is often more heavily scrutinized than most because in the past media has picked up something like a chord progression, which...honestly? While a meaningful part of a song, it is also one of the simplest parts of a song, and easily used or rewritten without intention into other work. I also to this day, hear very little similarity between Born This Way and Express Yourself, and that is as a fan who grew up listening to Madonna in the era that she was still much more relevant, and then also being a Gaga fan since her start. This is a fanboard, but we aren't here to pick apart every little song with criticism, we are here to share the music and our love of it. Seems a lot of people are forgetting what it means to be a true fan, and only know what it means to be a stan.
