"It's something babies/toddlers do, act your age". But in that case it wouldn't be called ageist, cause it's said to a young woman. If girls over 25 act like young teens or pre-teens, they are called childish and immature, right but that's not ageist either. Where is the limit? Something I've been wondering. They wouldn't, look at Melanie Martinez

dlioncourt91 765
The fact people still bring up BTW/EY each time Madonna is mentioned. Like let it go. Both women have but do fanbases not have anything better to do than focus on something so tired? While the period annoyed me, it didn't hinder nor sway my opinion on both women nor their music. Some people just can't cut the dramatics and enjoy the music like Gaga said and it's dandy Gaga is dragged into a convo which does not even mention her in the slightest. She is right though. Even in the 90's, she was being called grandma by news publication and focus was put on her age so it isn't as if it's something new, it's become more apparent as she's gotten older. It's not a meltdown when she's telling the truth. What other women gets as much flack over their age as much as she has even when she dresses in the most beautiful gowns the next day so much focus is put on her hands or after her name her act is bold or "aging pop-star." StrawberryBlond 14,862
I laugh at how she thinks criticising the artistic choice of grown woman sucking on her thumb is looked makes you a woman hating bigot. It's called having an opinion, get over it. How do we even know they're women haters, considering that they don't mention anything about giving male behaviour a free pass? And "limit me with the fear of what you aren't familiar with"? Wtf is she on about? If anyone has a fear of what they aren't familiar with it's her, still acting like a rebellious teenager because she's so scared of growing old. Why people criticise her for this is nothing to do with ageism, it's to do with the fact that she looks ridiculous and seems to be regressing artistically. Fact is, she is more immature now than she was in the past. From 1989-2006, she turned out albums that she worked really hard on, whether you love them or hate them. She turned out mature, thought-provoking work in this time. In 1998, she especially showed maturity, even admitting it in her songs, talking about how having a child made her realise that she'd lived so selfishly before. She really matured as an artist and was praised for it. She continued making albums that were meaningful to her as time went on and proved herself as a capable artist more and more...but then 2008 hit and something in Madonna changed. She was suddenly all about chasing youth, jumping on every trend going, using younger artists to make her appear younger and cooler. And her attitude became really desperate, she was trying to shock but it didn't work because she'd done all her shock stuff years before. She became more bitter and unapologetically mean. This naturally left her open to criticism, and rightly so. These days, it seems like her only aim is to make music to appeal to young people and still provoke some shock, anything to draw attention to her. At her age, she should be comfortable with herself and what she's achieved and stop caring about being accepted by a youth market who were never going to accept her anyway. If she'd always been like this and never changed, it might be another story and we'd accept that this is just how she is. But she matured years ago...but is now descending into immaturity. She's going backwards. Calling someone out for that is not ageism or bigotry, it's human nature to criticise fake behaviour. 9 hours ago, River said: we all wish that our grandmothers and soon our mothers would be so energetic and open minded like her.. it's nothing but jealousy, most of the women in her age are rotten and going to see the doctor every week.. I love my mother's open mindedness but I'd be shocked and appalled if she acted like Madonna. I wouldn't act like Madonna now and I'm 26. No, it's not jealousy. It's such a typical stance to take and it's sexist too - "Women innately hate other women, so if they criticise another woman, it must be jealousy." This argument has been used to shut down women's valid opinions for decades. We focus so much on sticking together now that we can't reasonably call someone out anymore. And even if most women her age "are rotten and going to see the doctor every week," so what? What a nasty thing to say. You want to support women and yet put them down? I notice this from a lot of Madonna fans - they accuse any detractors of ageism, yet put down any woman who isn't Madonna for ageist reasons. 3 hours ago, Supersonic said: They wouldn't, look at Melanie Martinez Melanie is only 21 and looks even younger, so she gets away with it more. Plus, she isn't married with children and she has a baby voice, so she seems even more like a little girl. And she has been criticised for what is deemed inappropriate sexualising of children. So, yeah, criticism, just for other reasons. It's all relative.

So what? do you know why women at her age are barely enjoying their life? because all their life they are stuck in the kitchen and cleaning the house for their children and then for their grandchildren and it makes them sick, because they are slaves and now there is a woman who says a big **** you to everyone and enjoying her life how she wants but it's killing the haters inside to see that - to see a free woman. I'll put down any person who is putting down a woman that wants to change the fake normality of society. A woman at her 50th. 60th. 70 and so on should party all night long, wear hot clothes, go to the gym and do whatever she wants and NO ONE should tell her not to do it or to laugh at her or say tell her that she's too old for this. And I'm not a Madonna fan So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

Hexxx 2,244
Seriously, people need to shut up. This is a grown ass woman. I don't think Madonna is trying to "fit in" or be young, she's just being her inner self and I don't think she has to go to some retirement home just because she's a 58 year old pop star. One day, the world will thank her. People shouldn't have to hide themselves or quit their dreams just because of a certain age. Miss Piggy 7
Madonna got a lot of abuse from some Gaga fans even long way before she gave her opinion on the controversy of Born This Way in an interview. I remember so much hate, calling her names, towards her children. Even Lady Gaga's Haus of Gaga team was really nasty in tweets, calling her an old hag, an old lady who needed to take her medication. Lady Gaga herself saying she was giving approval in an e-mail. Still, some Lady Gaga fans rewritten history by saying Madonna calling Lady Gaga reductive.
