Redstreak 6,653
I love a lot of artists that are nowhere near close to charting so no I don't think validation through success is the issue for us Take a moment to think of just flexibility, love, and trust~

I think @ReidOne is right on the money here.

I just don't like that people in this forum think that just because you dislike PI/ this new era you're automatically a person who only likes pop music, a chart obsessed fan, etc. It's an idiotic generalization to make and I'm tired of being thrown into that group

Ladle Ghoulash 23,635
This is incredible and so true omg. The thing that Gaga's journey has taught me (especially through the end of Born This Way, into ARTPOP and into this era) is the importance of self-reliance. I, much like Gaga in some ways, was obsessed with validating myself based on how other people viewed me, so I over exerted myself and put a lot of pressure on myself to be socially visible/popular. But, I reached a point where I crashed and realized that being true to myself and connecting that way is more important and much healthier than what I was formerly doing. I think that's a part of what Gaga is doing right now. She's raging at and looking critically at all that she 'mistook for love' (fame, false relationships) and is trying to get a firmer grip on herself as an individual as she relates to herself, her friends and her family...all that she finds true and meaningful in life. I think it's incredibly inspiring and it's been amazing to take this journey with her. But, I also was once a little chartster: I was obsessed with her imperial phase. It definitely made me feel visible and validated to have someone like her in the public eye and taking the media by storm and to be a part of it. But that's a fantasy. It is, indeed, a perfect illusion. We (Gaga included) have to move on from that type of thinking in order to be whole. We have forgotten our public MANNERS

PartySick 159,824
You could simply sum this all up in three words: "blinded by nostalgia" Though I also agree with this: 23 hours ago, F AM E said: Why can't people just not like the new direction cause they don't like it? Fans aren't obligated to like everything As long as they can share their opinion respectfully in a non-excessive way (like effectively spamming "PI SUCKS" in every thread) then that's totally fine 🌸Flourishing and vibrant🌼

Actually, as a theatre artist, I have a different idea of what theatrical means. That being said, I respect your opinion, however, I disagree that her work is no longer theatrical. JesseBabe 837
What I have an issue with on here is that everyone is so quick to attack each other for having different opinions. It doesn't matter if they love the song or hate it, everyone is at each others' throats. Like really? It's an opinion. You can love this new era and think it's a God giving's gift, or you can hate it. It doesn't make it any less of a personal opinion. Personally, I am not too crazy about the song PI nor the video. I'm not even going to deny it; I miss her older stuff. But I have felt the same way with every new direction she's gone (TFM, BTW, AP). I get nostalgic for her previous work. I'm sure I'll love Joanne when it's released, but this new Gaga is so different than what I'm used to. Like going from crazy wigs, 9 inch heels, over the top outfits, and elaborate long videos, to Gaga wearing denim booty shorts and a crop top rolling around in the dirt for 3 minutes, like that's so different. Give me and some other fans time to adjust. I'm not saying I hate her new era or that I don't want her to grow and evolve. I'm just saying that personally, at the moment, I'm not for it. I am not obligated to like everything she puts out. She doesn't pay my bills or get me through college. She doesn't owe me anything and I don't owe her anything. But I'm not going to hate on somebody for loving her new direction right off the bat. Do you, but let me do me too.
Torsoface 3,262
I became a fan because of the huge dance bops and crazy over the top fashion. Now she is doing the exact opposite

Which doesn't mean that it's your case.
