Yeah she also admitted she didn't expect PI to even go #1 on iTunes, so I don't get why we're stressing so much about all of this.

She isn't a popstar, she's an artist

I honestly don't care about charts, and will never understand people that do so. You don't measure an artist's popularity by the charts. The weedsmokers will eventually wilt.

I didn't ask for a free ride, I only asked you to show me a real good time.

I feel like the Joanne era was not made for the charts. Gaga is simply not aiming for top hits or top albums with this era. And is not like she was specifically aiming for top hits during the previous eras but this statement applies to Joanne more than ever. To me, it seems like Gaga simply wants to make the music that she wants. She really wants to tell her story this time around. And the result is music that is great, but not necessarily radio friendly or trendy. Now, she is promoting her music because she wants her music to be heard and because she has obligations from her label to do so. But it is quite obvious that Gaga lives in her own artistic world and not in the mainstream world.

I don't know why it's so hard for a lot of people here to understand this. She literally has said over and over again in her own interviews that she doesn't give a damn. She NEEDS to make the music that speakers to her. Hits or no hits. I stan for her because she is an artist. Not a machine.

Anyone who thinks she needs to be a pop star or fill that mold clearly hasn't been paying attention to a single word she has been saying for the past three years.

More people need to adopt this sort of mentality. Gaga will do what she wants to do, and that's it. If you're not into it, then maybe just wait around and maybe something will spark your interest. Charts are secondary and should not interfere with someone's love for the music and the artist.

For this era specifically, it's certainly not meant for the charts. The album is going to be very personal and very special to her: the goal and purpose of this album isn't to create massive hits, it's to share a part of her that she otherwise wouldn't necessarily share before. All of these songs are going to be autobiographical, and I'm really excited to hear what they'll sound like/be about!

Why can't it be both? See: Taylor Swift.

She's had that mindset since ARTPOP , her management still tried to have it chart but we saw what happened with Troy.

I don't care about the charts, all I care is a great era that she couldn't give us with ARTPOP which is a great album in my opinion. I know that Joanne will be very different but I'm excited af!

Just kinda sad. At this point in her career, Madonna gave us Like A Prayer, Express Yourself, Vogue, Blonde Ambition Tour...

At this point in Gaga's career, she's given us Just Dance, Poker Face, Paparazzi, Bad Romance, Telephone, Alejandro, The Monster Ball, Born This Way, Judas, TEOG, You & I, MTN, The Born This Way Ball Tour (We'll forget about the last round of singles) and a Jazz album with a Jazz Legend (working on a second). Everything up until now is 'iconic'

Not too sure of your point.

My point was eight years into her career we are getting a boring flop single. I was comparing that to 8 years into Madonnas career when we got Like A Prayer.

They're looking for excuses for flops.

''It's not radio friendly!''

''She doesn't care!''

''Music not the bling!''

Meanwhile Bobby was the first to tweet a pic of Gaga at #1 on iTunes with PI and Gaga mentioned she was #1 in over 60 countries during the iHeartRadio interview. But of course, they don't care.
