How and why did the ARTPOP era split this fan base apart? I keep hearing about this and knew about this but can someone please explain it to me?

I'm obsessed with the era because it's pure art.

ALSO: At what point during the era did this happen?

It exposed the fans who only care for chart success. Glad they jumped off the ship.

well for me ARTPOP strengthened my love for Gaga, its a great album to me, and will always have a special place in my heart. The music is good. As a fan I can appreciate that the commercial side of it wasn't managed very well but I loved the music and her style in everything during the ARTPOP era, it was an exciting time. And I'm so glad we are going through such exciting times again once more.

It separated the fans who left Gaga after flopping vs the actual fans!

Walk down the runway but don't puke, it's okay. You just had 10 donuts today. Without frosting.

Yeah, expect them to drag Gaga to pits if PI flops. Then comeback when it slays.

They're sadly still here, if you can tell by 80% of these threads.

The first week album sales forecast will be very interesting.

We ruined this fanbase when we let Marry The Night flop and then when we broke her hip. ARTPOP was doomed from the start. :toofunny:

Spoiler

But in all seriousness, ARTPOP started off strong but then floundered due to mismanagement and the constant comparisons with other pop stars in terms of sales and popularity. It became sort of a vicious cycle with fans attacking her choices and jumping ship to other more "successful" artists.

But the concept of that album and the music and performances were sublime. It's a shame the entire era is looked at so negatively

All of Gaga's albums are basebreakers.

ARTPOP however, drove everything home.

The entitled brats we received from Born This Way left for the hills due to the unrelatability of the album. It also drove away all those who wanted Gaga to be at the top of the charts at all times. We lost many people just due to the mismanagement of the era. The people who were perfectionist and OCD about Gaga's career were livid.

Because some people are fans of the success, not the artist, the music or anything, just fans of the artist who gives them enough #1s to brag on twitter

Not once do you mention many fans lost interest in her music.  You can never leave that variable out.  It eventually happens to all artists as their fan base gets smaller compared to their early iconic albums.  Gaga peaked earlier than most.  You can't wash it away with caring about charts.  Most that weren't interested in ARTPOP have said the music wasn't as good.

I though general decay was implied?

However, it depends, as some people do not hit their peaks until later in their career. Gaga may have reached her peak, but she is currently on a plateau of interest.

Plus I think Gaga will always manage to have a fanbase of somewhat astounding size.
