edgarz 4
Give it time to grow on you. For example. When I first heard hotel california I hated the song but after some time the song grew on me and it's one of my all time favorite songs.

I still love Gaga too I've read all your posts on all the threads today and I thought you clearly didn't like the song, but now that you're saying she's over or whatever it really is starting to sound either like flaimbait or a medonster stole your account. You've been here through ARTPOP. You know what she feels about this record. You'd never say something like that. chaeri pls

Away from the overproduction (that some of us have come to love) and to a more honest and less cryptic place with lots of guitars, some lowkey belting, risky moves like that key change, and even saliva sounds I wouldn't worry too much about it. It's the kind of song the GP will eat up and they're already salivating for it. For the fans that like the more pop-ish/complex songs that do backflips and stuff, there's probably a song on the album that they'll love. Forgive me, but a key change is far from risky. It's one of the most overused techniques in pop music since the 50s. It may have fallen out of favor recently due to oversaturation, but I would never call it risky. still love it though Honestly, I think Gaga can do better than this, but I can see it being a smash. The "it wasn't love, it wasn't love, it was a perfect illusion" is very catchy. Complex choruses are unfortunately out these days; choruses are now more like a pre-chorus to the "drop". I think it's a lot more contemporary than ARTPOP ever was. I can imagine a van full of girls singing this song while it plays on the radio. It's a simple song, but it's great for radio. My prediction is it'll be successful; let's see how it goes. And I'm buying it on Google Play anyway

freebit 6,240
Honestly, I think it will do just ok, because it's just an ok song IMO. It going number 1 on itunes in so many countries shows there's still a big interest in her, so I don't think it will flop to the depths of hell like say, The Spirit Indestructible. If she just continues to do her own thing and throws out a low-key second single, then don't expect much chart success, just enjoy the album for what it is (or if you don't, whatever). If she releases an excellent second single then it will obviously be more successful era, and this will be the defining song of the album like how Toxic and Irreplaceable were for their parent albums. Kahzandra 142
My take on what PI will do....(sorry guys it's longwinded) I think we've arrived at rut in popular music (particularly American mainstream radio) where almost every major artist is caught up in a desperate attempt to out do each other at nailing the same "it" sound. I feel like I'm watching a vicious circle of everyone trying to put out a song that sounds more like Justin Beiber's "Sorry" than "Sorry" does. Just in the past month, we have gotten singles from Britney, Sia, etc. .... That is reaching so damn hard for that stupid sound...AGAIN. You know the one I'm talking about: sounds like trap-meets-Kygo with a comercialized twist. Each artist is trying to out-cool the last one with how minimalist-yet-atmospheric they can be. When it comes to point, a wrench needs to be thrown on in the gears to help break up the homogenization mainstream music. Even some big wig record companies and top 40 radio realizes they need to atleast try to stay a bit ahead of the GP's tastes. Right now, Popular music can not keep sustaining this never ending quest to re-create Diplo's "Lean On" in a million different ways. The time has come. It's over. Yet it seems like no one got the memo when it clearly started to overstay it's welcome. "Perfect Illusion" is essentially the whistblower to pop music right now - it was delivered to deliberately dismantle the sonic landscape that is overdue for an implosion and major shift. Yes, it's jarring, repetitive, awkward, and a bit "off" sounding. But right now, it's necessity overrides its imperfections. It showed up 5 am to the college frat party that's been going on since 8 pm (the one that's still kinda fun but getting a little old), unplugged all the chords, turned on all the lights, and casually told everyone to start packing, because the dog and pony show is over. PS. Not surprised one bit that Gaga immediately started promo in Germany and the U.K. - a risky song like PI will undoubtedly perform better outside of the US, where the average music consumer seems to be more open minded to variety. Darcklighter22 2,358
I love how it's shaking everybody and causing this debate. If you truly love an artist you'll support whatever endeavour they gravitate towards. Ever since ARTPOP was released I've wanted her to dabble more into Rock I am beyond excited for the new record!
